I currently have an SX-64, an RS-232(homemade) interface, a simple 3 wire "null modem" cable and a PC running Telnet BBS server V1.3. Do I need a faster setup to run a BBS? If I made the MAX233 interface in Jeff Ledger's article and used a fully wired Null Modem cable/adapter, would that work?

If I made the MAX233 interface in Jeff Ledger's article and used a fully wired Null Modem cable/adapter, would that work? Simple answer: Yes. The simple null modem cable you're using now isn't enough to transfer all of the signals that are required by most BBS programs. The TelBBS cable described in Jeff Ledger's PDF is the one you should use. The RS-232 Interface you're using now may or may not work... The only real way to know for sure is to try it. I have had good success with the Commodore VIC-1011A interface and the Omnitronix Deluxe RS-232 interface. I'll also be getting one of Doppleganger's EZ232 interfaces soon, which I've heard is also very good. -Andrew
