Hi everyone.
After lots of testing I have my Wildcat 4.20 ML BBS running over serial connections from Leif's TelBBS server, but I'm not out of the woods yet. I'm hoping someone here might be able to help.
First, the setup.
[TelBBS Server]
AMD Athlon with 512MB RAM
A 4 port PCI serial board that allows me 4 com ports
4 - Null modem cables that go from the PCI serial board to the BBS computer.
[BBS Computer]
486 system with 32MB RAM (Upgraded with a P133 overdrive proc). "I plan on adding another 32mb RAM soon."
2 built in serial ports and a second 2 port serial ISA board on its way which will give me 4 com ports for 4 nodes.
4GB Hard Drive
Wildcat v4.2 Multiline.
--------------------------------------------
Ok, here goes.
I managed to get the telserver to conenct the caller to the BBS. The caller can do everything except upload or download. They can move through the menus, play door games and such, all with no problems. The second a caller tries to upload or download a file it automatically says it fails.
Now, I have tried this in two ways. The first is running the BBS off the 4GB hard disk and this method causes the above mentioned problems of an immediate failure of the transfer. The second method is a 250MB Zip Drive (Parallel). I copied the BBS software to a zip disk and thought about running the BBS off the zip disk so I can take the BBS around with me via the zip disk. Anyway when I do this callers can begin uploading and downloading, the progress bar begins to show transmission but at about 4 or 6% completion the BBS reports CRC errors and then tries to restart the transfer from 1%. This will keep happening with the transfer never getting past 8% tops. I'm not sure why this is happening. I've tried Z Modem, Y Modem, X Modem, and Kermit transfer protocols and the same problems happen.
Does anyone know what might be causing this problem? I find it weird that it works flawlessly with all other aspects of connecting to my BBS, but file transfers are the only part that are having trouble. I put a lot of money and time into setting up this retro BBS and I'm hoping to get it working 100%. I hope someone can help me.
Thanks
John
