Ok...
Three days of trying and I'm *starting* to make some results..
Using GPSgate pointed at 127.0.0.1:6400 --> COM1 (my modem) Then setting TCPSER4j to Line Port: 6400 with an ip232 modem.
Then... Boot a patched copy of Winvice 1.15 pointed at 127.0.0.1:232 (Pointed at TCPSER's ip232 modem settings)
Whew!
When I Close/Start the connection from GPSgate, I get RING in CCGMS under WinVICE. Typing ATA gives me direct access to the actual modem on COM1. (So far, so good)
I can dial a modem number, hear it dial my modem, connect and get a "CONNECT" message on my screen, but that's where the fun seems to stop. I can't get anything after the connection.
Hmmmm... I'm partway home..

I could be wrong but it sounds like CCGMS is waiting for the DCD line to signal the connection, but is likely not recieving this signal. After you get the connect message, can you get back into the modem's command mode? Can you send characters in either direction? Does the modem stay connected indefinitely?

Got it working! (but not with the cheap software) Using ComPort/IP Client (15day demo) I was able to make a connection to Cottonwood BBS using WinVICE. (2400 baud, minor line errors and all ) Here's the setup... TCPSERT4j: Configure <Line port="2000"/> <Modem type="ip232" device="232"/> ComPort/IP Client: Configure (http://www.fogsoft.com/TCP_RS232_Converter.html) Serial Ports (Whatever your modem is on) Remote Ports 2000 WinVICE 1.15 w/TCP patch (Same as used for Qlink) x64 -rsdev1 127.0.0.1:232 -rsuser 2400 -rsuserdev 0 ccgms.d64 In CCGMS type ATH, TCPSER4j should respond with an OK. Now, use the "connect" option in ComPort/IP. CCGMS should start getting a "RING" -- Answer by typing ATA in CCGMS. Now you should have direct access to your modem. ATDT ### Whatever real BBS you want. (I used a long distance calling card, so you can imagine all the numbers and commas in my dial string! Now to see if I can find a way to make this work with the $9 software, instead of the $40 software.... But hey with the 15day demo, no one has any excuse why they can't call Cottonwood. Jeff

Here's another 30day extension when you run out of time with ComPort/IP. (it's not cheaper..) www.taltech.com/products/tcpcom.htmlSet it for IP address 127.0.0.1, Port 2000 (as above) and use it the same way as ComPort/IP Jeff

Refinements.....
This is as simple as it gets...
WinVICE 1.2.0 (Standard Download)
Set the RS232 settings as 127.0.0.1:232 Activate RS232 device #1
Lauch TCP-com, Set as "server" on 127.0.0.1 port:232
Wella, direct, simple access to a modem from WinVICE.

continued Refinements: (Simple and Cheaper) Finally, I got it working with Franson GPSgate Use WinVICE 1.2.0 (Standard Download) Configure it with 127.0.0.1:232 on device #1 Activate device #1 Set GPSgate as follows: ------------------------------ Input - COM1 (wherever your modem is) Put checkmarks on both DTR and RTS Output - TCP/IP Server on port 232 Active output box should have both: GPSgate Direct TCP Server 232 Ok.. Simple.. Cheap.. Now call Cottonwood BBS. (Wiskow, you owe me one... ) Jeff -- That's it.. I'm off to bed... ----------------------------------------- Addon: Lookx like Franson crippled their latest "express" version of GPSgate. Looks like you'll need the "standard" version for TCP/IP use.

Provided for completeness....
Comport/IP "Server" also works fine directly with WinVICE 1.2.0
Seems Comport/IP "Client" requires the use of TCPSER, but Comport/IP "Server" works fine directly.
BTW, in any case make sure that your baud rate in your terminal program matches the baud rate you set in WinVICE rs232 settings.

I'll construct some sort of FAQ that looks a little prettier when I have the time.. Thought I'd push the envelope a little further this afternoon and try some leeching.. heh.. Seems Punter protocol has trouble with this configuration. (I know Steve never thought we'd still be using it.) But Xmodem worked perfectly. I was able to download "thunderaiders" via Xmodem straight to my .d64 image. Jeff

I was able to download "thunderaiders" via Xmodem straight to my .d64 image. Hmmm... I'm not sure why Punter's not working... Luckily, Color 64 has very good Xmodem support... For those that don't already know, you just press "%" on my BBS to change protocols. I've been steadily adding lots of software to the file transfer sections on my BBS... And there's still MUCH more to come. ;D -Andrew

Hi and thank you Jeff. I am looking right now at another program, which, by its description, seems to be capable of doing the same thing these other programs do, but is freeware.... www.hw-group.com/products/hw_vsp/index_en.htmlBy default, this program works as a client, but it also claims to be able to work as server. Would this work? If so, how? -Bryce
