I'm trying to set up for the first time to use my C64 to "call out" to Telnet BBS's. I'm using an Omnitronix Deluxe RS-232 Interface, I had Charles Gutman make me one of Jim Brain's "Standard TelBBS Cables", and running BBS Server on an older PC running Windows NT. I connected the interface to the cable, then connected that to a serial port on the PC. Then I ran BBS Server on the PC, and CCGMS on the C64. The problem is, I'm not getting anything repeating back to me when I try to type modem commands in CCGMS, and the "transmission lights" in BBS Server aren't showing any activity. I've ensured that the baud rates on both CCGMS and BBS Server are the same, and as far as I can tell, I've got all the settings right in BBS Server, but still nothing... I also tried messing with the switches on the Omnitronix interface, trying every possible combination... but no luck there either. Oh, and I also tried swapping out the custom-made cable with a standard null modem cable, setting for that in BBS Server, but I had the same negative result.
Can anyone help me out and give me some clues as to what might be wrong?

I don't know if this will help any, but my Omnitronix's interface switches are "up up down". I'm using a telbbs cable with no issues.

Knowing that someone else is using the same interface and what settings they are using... I have a feeling that the problem may lie in my COM port settings in Windows... I'll have to try a few more things. -Andrew

For normal BBS use all my switches are down. When I call Q, I flip the last switch up. I am not using any special cabling/nullmodem adapters, other than a db9-db25 adapter, and my USB-Serial adapter.

Hold on now... Are you telling me that you have your Omnitronix interface plugged into a USB port on your PC through the use of adapters? -Andrew

That is correct.
I have Keyspan's USB Serial Adapter model USA-19HS, then the DB9>DB25, then the Omnitronix Deluxe.
I chose Keyspan's model because it is a high-speed serial adapter, 230Kbps, unlike most models that max out around 9600bps

Thanks for that information, Snogpitch! I'm definately going to have to try that out. That way, I can connect to my laptop running Windows XP. I didn't think that was possible, since my laptop doesn't have a serial port. Good to know I can! ;D
