My setup is CCGMS on c64+PeakModemInterface+nullmodemCable->WinXP Home Edition running BBS Server 1.3.
This works great for Q-Link Reloaded and for telnet BBSs. Thanks Leif, Jim Brain, and the BBS SysOPs.
But when I connect to my telnet shell accound at sdf.lonestar.org and get the username/password prompt, I can't login. There is an option to type NEW at the username prompt to create a new account, but even NEW is not recognized (just get the password prompt).
I suspect it is a PETSCII problem, since the BBSs are petscii-aware but sdf.lonestar.org is not. There is an option in BBS Server to do PETSCII->ASCII translation, but it is greyed-out.
Has anyone gotten a CCGMS to BBS Server setup working with a telnet shell account that is not petscii-savvy?
If not, is there a simple terminal program known to handle this problem?
Thanks for any help on this.

I've used a setup very similar to yours frequently. However, I use Novaterm 9.6 for the Terminal program, as it supports ASCII/ANSI (as well as PETSCII and others). In fact, if you're using a C128 it can use the 80-column output (even though it's a C64 program) which makes it superb for shell account use. If not, it has a software-based pseudo-80-column mode which is still pretty good.
PETSCII/ASCII Translation only applies to running a BBS, it wouldn't work for dial-out calls anyway. It's greyed out because it's not something the modem emulator should be doing, but I had to hack it in for EBBS.

Leif,
Thanks for the help.
Everything works with Novaterm 9.6: can login to telnet shell account and surf the web, send email.
Big improvement over dialup.
