Seeing Electroflash's post about DMBBS software makes me want to put out a similar request for Image BBS. I have a pretty extensive collection of stuff for Image 1.2, 1.2A and did manage to get the alpha (largely unfinished) version of Image 2.0 online via telnet earlier this year. All my stuff is in storage, but over the next month or two I hope to get at least my CMD HD, a 1541, and 1581, and a C128 out so I can continue tinkering with Image 2.0. Jack "Rascal" Followay has the task of OCRing the Image 2.0 programmer's reference guide, so we can understand the & calls (which are radically different than 1.2) and everything else. I am in contact with my old co-sysop, Fuzzynavel, after about 8 years, and hope to visit with him this weekend! Good times. I clued him in about QLink and the telnet BBS scene. I hope he's interested enough to rejoin, and resume being co-sysop of The Dragon's Eye BBS. So if anyone has any Image BBS software, let me know via email! I'd like to have a comprehensive database on some web site somewhere where we can put in bug requests, feature requests, ratings, stuff like that. I did have the Programmer's Reference Guide typed up, mostly. I ought to finish that over the summer, and had actually started typing up the docs for GBBS Pro on the Apple, for a project that I've had on the back burner for a decade. So I'm into all sorts of BBS-y goodness. - Pinacolada

Hey Pina - I was trying to locate your site today with the programmers ref guide on it, but couldnt locate it. Is it still out there somewhere? Id like to build my collection of Image stuff, so if you have D64s or (preferably) D81s of the plus files etc, can you post them up somewhere? With such popular software, its sad that its so hard to find CNet/Image/CNet 128 files on the net.

I tried to get Image running in Vice but for some reason 1541 Emulation is not working very well in Vice1.19.

I tried to get Image running in Vice but for some reason 1541 Emulation is not working very well in Vice1.19. Did you try turning on "True Drive Emulation"? It's slower but the emulation is quite accurate.

Yeah, Image and Cnet 64 both require true drive being turned on. They use relative files if Im not mistaken, and maybe other low level disk commands.

What's really strange is that you can turn on true drive emulation for accuracy and then plug in a virtual fast load cartridge of some sort to offset the loss in disk access speed. You can even use JiffyDOS. As odd as it sounds, it works. VICE is truly a remarkable program.

Hey guys! I'm still alive... really. Yeah, I have disks and disks of Image stuff, just need to find the time to put it in nice neat archives. Like I say elsewhere, it'd be great to have a little database backend and rate software and log bug fixes and stuff. I've been fiddling with Image 2.0 a little bit recently too. But overall fairly busy with life... got my driver's permit this morning, and looking into college. Whee! No net access at home yet, that'll be a while. I've hacked my CMD HD into my PC, using a connector my roommate built. It works. My monitor stopped working so my mom picked up a new(ish) 19" monitor the other day. It's pretty nice for the PC... Um, anyhow, I've missed the chats and BBS'ing and stuff... maybe I'll send a quick email to CJ with my phone # or something. Later, dudes! Wish I had more time

Who are you? Oh, yeah...Pinacolada...I remember you now . Don't worry about your disappearance as all the bbs' have been virtually dead with summertime. I think things are starting to pick back up though. My board had about 3 callers just yesterday which beats the summertime 3 callers every two weeks LOL. Look forward to you getting back online with us soon and take care!

Hey guys. Cool, good to know things are still alive and kickin'. I copied all my Image 2.0 work files to a 1581 disk, then tried WoMo's 1581copy to dump it to a .D81 file, but it won't work. So I sez to myself, well, let's use a DOS boot disk to run it. Er, that didn't work so hot either. So I guess I'll just send each individual file (excluding REL files I guess) over to the PC using my null modem cable. Hmm... Don't think ARC handles REL files too well. Maybe I could just skip those. I'll have to see. Anyway... heh, wrote some ML that actually halfway works, an INSTRING routine for my text adventure. Works great on single character matches, returns the position of the last character matched on multi-character matches though. I'll have to post my source over in the Loadstar programming forum. Took me a while to get it that far, but it works, mostly!

Geesh, so much for transferring the files over via null modem cable. HyperTerm mangles the case of every file, and a filename with a / in it creates a new subdirectory. I need to try getting tcpser4j up and running again and use a Commodore term program to preserve case and filenames. My d: drive is FAT32 on the PC with 1581copy. 1581copy won't run at all under Windows XP of course. Soo... not sure what else to do. ;P At least my mom let me borrow her laptop, and I have my wireless network card and so I'm on for as long as I want today at the library, yay.

This program is brand new today, and contains ONLY the code needed to handle 1581 disks. It also includes the full C source code, so feel free to change/enhance it! The new utility is available from: obo.homeip.net/1581disk.zipIf you know anyone else that might be interested in the 1581Disk utility, feel free to send them the program or URL above :-) simonowen.com/

Oh cool! Thanks for that. I got the disk driver and the program, I'll try it out when I get home.
