Anyone know why the 7404 inverter circuit wont perform better than 1200bps? Seems no matter what settings I have on the Commodore side and the PC side, I can only get 1200 bps working.

I have one like that and it works good. I did think it was only at 1200bps. But it goes faster then that.

IIRC, (I now use a Max233 interface) the 7404 was able to move data faster, but only using "tlr's" Over5 project. I'd encourage you to build the newer Max233 interface for any serious TelBBS dialing.

Or save time and money and buy one like I did . Check out oldsoftware.com and see if there's any in stock.

Its funny, right after I posted that, I gave it another serious try, and sure enough, I was able to move up to higher speeds, including up to 38.4k. There's some data loss, but Im ok with 19.2 or even 9600.
Whats really weird....right after I was messing with Over5 (which is a very cool utility BTW), my code that acts like TCPSER4J stopped working. Dunno why. Now I have to "jump start" my COM port with the real TCPSER4J, then my program will work. Im using the 1.1 framework, and so I had to use an open source COM port class module called JustinIO.cs. Has anyone used this C# code and had trouble getting it to work?
