Hello everyone,
After seeing how many memories it brought back to connect to a Commodore Telnet BBS from my Commodore 128 computer, I just had to pull out some of my Commodore hardware, dust it all off, and setup a BBS of my own again.
The BBS is running Centipede 128. It's setup on 2 Commodore 128 computers which are connected to a multiplexed Lt. Kernal hard drive. Everything has been configured for dual line access which allows chatting and such between the 2 nodes. The addresses are:
lostcavernsbbs.dyndns.org:6001 lostcavernsbbs.dyndns.org:6002
Node 1 is setup on telnet port 6001, and node 2 is setup on telnet port 6002. Both nodes run at 2400 bps for right now.
The BBS is still work in progress. I've had a couple people help me test the system, and it appears fully functional (thanks to the testers). As most Sysops have experienced, there are always things to change, add, tweak, and modify. As time allows, more features will be added. Let me know what you think.
Thanks,
-Moise

Great! This really is cool to have a two-line Telnet BBS running on real 128s. Can you post a pic of the setup?

Thanks for the feedback! Here are a couple pics of my setup. First one is the full setup. Shows the C128 and C128D that run the BBS, the IBM Netfinity that runs the Telnet software, a PC that triple boots to either Windows, 64HDD, or Star Commander which is configured with a 1541 XEP1541 parallel cable equipped drive. Of course I had to show the monitor with the BBS Server software that makes all the magic happen. ;D Great software Leif! tinyurl.com/5duf6Here is a closeup of the C= machines. Both computers have the Lt. Kernal burst mode modifications made. The C-128 has a 1571 and 1581 connected for file transfers, a printer, and uses an Omnitronix RS232 interface with a store bought null-modem adapter. The C-128D just has it's internal 1571 drive and a Peak RS232 interface with a null-modem cable I made myself. Both computers are connected to the same 160 meg Lt. Kernal via a Lt. Kernal multiplexer which you can see behind the C-128. tinyurl.com/3q44w-Moise

Nice BBS so far, I'm just waiting to get access to it. It's nice to call using CGTerm in 80 columns. I'd love to check out the chat function, and see how it compares to Image BBS (which is pretty blah in my opinion), it's supposed to have either split windows, or colored text?
And multi-node chatting would be awesome. Is there a way to tell if there's anyone on the other line?

Love the pictures, thanks. I'm impressed by such a nice, tidy setup :-)
By the way, I was able to borrow a Turbo232 - should have it in a couple of days. Then I can test and see why BBS Server doesn't work properly with it.

By the way, I was able to borrow a Turbo232 - should have it in a couple of days. Then I can test and see why BBS Server doesn't work properly with it. That would be great! Centipede is extremely fast on the Lt. Kernal hard drive. It's a shame to run it at only 2400 bps. I'm really eager to run both nodes at 57,600. Like I mentioned to you before, it's probably something I'm doing (or not doing) on my end. Right now, I am running BBS Server 1.0 for both nodes. I ran into an issue with 1.1. I used the same settings that I had with 1.0. With 1.1, when somebody connects, on the PC side, everything appears to connect properly. But, it just keeps sending what looks like a enter/return command over and over to the BBS. No information is sent back to the server software. Centipede just going nuts with the prompts to login. It keeps going until I disconnect from the PC side. At that point Centipede resets, and goes back to the waiting for call screen. Nothing gets sent back to the PC. Did that make any sense? Any ideas? -Moise

Just called the bbs...looks great! Really neat to see a two node system online.
I have a swiftlink here with my centipede system if I can be any help in testing something out.

So node #2 is the one you wired in a new connector to share the t232 and the lt kernal, right?

So node #2 is the one you wired in a new connector to share the t232 and the lt kernal, right? Yes it is! The LTK host adapter is configured to run off I/O2, and the Turbo232 is configured to run off I/O1 on the cartridge port. Both have selectable I/O ports via jumpers. Took a little time to solder up an extra 44 pin connector so that I could have them both connected at the same time. Too bad I don't have anymore cartridge port expanders as it would have been a lot easier that way. As soon as I can get another Turbo232 cartridge I am planning on modifying the other node's computer as well. -Moise telnet://lostcavernsbbs.dyndns.org:6001telnet://lostcavernsbbs.dyndns.org:6002
