Hello all.... I have a question re: Image BBS 1.2a and CGTERM...
When cgterm connects to the bbs, the first question asked is to hit Backspace/DELETE for C/G detect, but I can't seem to get image to go into CG mode, it keeps sensing ascii. Is the c64 backspace mapped to a different key on a 104 keybaord? Could it be something in my BBS configuration?
Long story short, like many of you out there I am trying to return my BBS to the world, and I am using the cgterm to work out some bugs and such.
Any ideas?
Michael.

I've had that problem with callers on my BBS. CGTerm uses Backspace on the PC keyboard, no problem. It's unclear to me what the problem may be. Can you use the AT command once at the main prompt to switch to C/G mode, or toggle the ASC checkmark using F7 on the Commodore keyboard, at least? I'd suggest calling my BBS to test things out, but it's going to be down for a day or two more, I need to upgrade the CMD HD mechanism in it. What's your BBS's address, is it "live" yet?

Thanks for the reply.... Yes, I can switch to CG by the AT on image, and the graphics work fine at that point. Just to keep you up-to-date on what I have experimented on so far:
Finally got enough resources to get my C128 online as well, and had it call my image bbs (on the c64) via leifs server program. No problem connecting, however, even when using a real c128 (in 64 mode), it still mistook my delete key as an ascii code. I then tried using the 128 to call other image bbs's, and when logging into Riktronics, everything worked fine!!!
So, the problem looks like an issue with "stock" image bbs program and the web server, or at least that is my thought anyways.
If it helps any, I am using a Omnitronix RS232 adapter on the c64, and a small Aprotek COM-MODEM for the C128. I will try to swap the two later today when I get home from work.
Oddly enough, the Aprotek RS232 is a one chip design, but uses a 74240 chip with two small switches, one for 1670 and hayes mode, the other say on/off. The 240 chip is an Octal buffer/line driver with 3 state outputs. I will take pictures later as well for those who might want to try and make one. It doesn't look that complicated.
Thanks again!!! Michael
P.S. My board is not fully up yet, my 4040 went on holiday so I need to shuffle the drives a bit, etc.

Hmm, stock Image had no problem detecting the CHR$(20) that kicked it into C/G mode at the beginning of the call. I'd suspect something in the BBS server is not behaving right. Are you using Leif's BBS Server or Jim Brain's tcpser, or...? I've put my BBS up as of this morning, it seems to be behaving okay, if you'd like to come in and explore. One thing I hope Per gets around to eventually (he's busy with the C-One and other things I'm sure) is the screen case switch bug. CGTerm doesn't always change the case of the screen properly, for some reason. If that happens and you're stuck with the case set wrong, just hit Esc-Alt to toggle it.

Thanks for the reply! As always, it was something so simple....... Firstly, I am using Leif's server program. Under the "conecting" settings, there is a checkmark that can be added for "Ask caller for ascii/petscii translation and use this translation file".....DO NOT put a checkmark here, let the bbs (Image in my case) figure out if it an ascii/petscii call. That was it! I'll keep everyone posted as my BBS gets closer to going online! Till then....
