Hi all, EBBS has worked out well for my BBS for over a year, but it has its limitations and I'm thinking of changing it sometime in the next few months. What I'm looking for is: - Must run on a standard Commodore 64.
- Must run on a single 1541 drive, or possibly 2. I'm not interested in having file areas.
- Y2K compliant!
- Support of PETSCII/ASCII/ANSI color and graphics.
- 2400 baud support. (Negative Format is still running at 1200 baud!)
- Built-in Guest accounts or access. 90% of my callers are one-time only, people just want to see it.
- Full Remote Sysop access. With EBBS, I had to buy a cheap black-n-white TV at a yard sale just so I could read feedback.
- Easy to set up and maintain.
- Reliability and stability.
- Free.
I know Image is popular, but it might be overkill for me. I've heard C*Base is still under development, what's the latest version like? What other packages meet these requirements?

I've been thinking...it should be possible to replace the various text files in EBBS with color versions, since they're simple SEQ files like on many other BBS programs.
I've never used a fancier package like Image or Centipede, however, so I'm curious:
Do you need to make 40 column, 80 column, ASCII, and PETSCII versions of all your screens and menus? Or does the BBS package handle the conversion automatically?

I checked out several new BBS programs, and am going to try out ST/R BBS - it's the only one that meets my list, and it seems pretty easy to use. Bo's writeup is wrong, it does support 2400 baud. Does anyone have any experience with it? I tried out Image, but it always gets stuck in a loop where it says "Insert all System Disks in correct drives..." I press Return, it loads the files, then resets the BBS and asks for the files again.

I've heard of it myself, but have never tried to get my copy up and running, and never logged on to one either. Bummer that C*Base 3.3 isn't ready yet. Let me know how your setup goes.

I think C*Base would be overkill - I only have one 1541 drive! With only one 1541 drive, you definitely do not want to try running Image V1.2A.
