I'm curently developing a tcpser companion application that will allow telnet bbs systems to offer a real modem connection in addition to a telnet option. The physical modem can be local (on the same box) or remote (in another country...) The code will work with any telnet bbs service, but will support a special mode that works in conjunction with tcpser (and any service that supports the function), where the modem will be taken off-hook when the bbs is active with a telnet connection.
However, as I only have one phone line, I may need to ask people to dial me up to test it out...
If anyone is interested, let me know.

I've got dial out capability with my C64. I can also pop my 56k modem back into my winbox. I have a second line, but it needs to be activated and re-routed to my closet... I*might* have enough phone cord to reach. Oh yeah, the wife probably won't like the idea of another bill...

That would be cool. I was reading a thread on comp.sys.cbm where someone was complainging about BBSs that didn't have dial-up access... that made me wonder if such a thing was possible. It would be awesome, but I have to wonder how many hardcore anti-pc commodore users are out there that would rather pay long distance than telnet. It would be hard to justify the expense of an additional phone line for one call a month...
