This morning I took the BBS down to try out my RAMLink. I left BBS Server alone (after putting it into do not accept calls mode).
I turned off the computer, hooked up the RAMLink, then failed to get it to work (I think it is incompatible with the Lt Kernel daughterboard).
I then hooked the Kernel back up and rebooted the BBS. The C128 was turned on and off a few times during this whole process.
When the BBS came back up, BBS Server was logging framing errors (as soon as the BBS tried to initialize the modem). I have seen this happen before, but for different reasons (the first time I saw this, I had tried to upload a file).
Niether restarting BBS Server, nor turning off one computer (or both computers) fixed the problem. Each time the BBS comes up, BBS Server reports framing errors. When I use TCPCOM, garbage is seen in the window.
I don't understand how this issue can survive a cold boot on both ends of the null cable.
THe **ONLY** way I can fix this is to boot into 64 mode, and run Novaterm. I have no problem telnetting out. Then I just turn the machine off, and boot up in 128 mode and run the BBS. Everything is back to normal at this point.
Should I suspect my VIC-1011A, the user port, or BBS Server? (remember, TCPCOM failed too!)
This is very troubling!
I think it is time for a Turbo232!

I've been getting Framing errors, and RS232 overrun errors myself. I am using Leif's Telnet BBS Server v1.0 RC1. I couldn't get BBS Link or TCPCom to work with my Image v1.2A BBS. It doesn't like them for some reason.

I've been getting Framing errors, and RS232 overrun errors myself. I doubt the framing errors are a problem. In fact, nothing has changed except I started logging them to see if they ever happened. I get them occasionally when nothing is happening on my BBS at all, i.e. or I turn on the TV to see who the last caller was. (probably electrical noise causing lone bits on the line). RS232 overrun errors aren't fatal either, but they're a pain if transferring a file. Might be solved with flow control.
