Can I dial out to another telnet BBS from NovaTerm (or another C64 Term prg) using a null cable connection to BBS Server v0.9b?
I'd like to have two copies of BBS Server running. One on COM2 for my BBS, and one on COM1 to service my C64 for calling out to other telnet boards.

Yes, this should work fine. Just make sure they're listening on different Telnet ports. If you're only ever going to dial out with the one copy, you can set the port to 0 and it will pick a free one at random.
You should even be able to call the BBS on the other COM port.
There was a bug in earlier versions (before 1.0) with the order in which the COM ports were initialized, but I'm not sure what the effect was. The problem was masked by my PC having both COM ports on IRQ3.
Try it and see!

have done this. Run a BBS on COM1 using tcpser, then run another copy on COM2, and hook NT9.6 to it. Works fine, but it sure is hard to exmplain, or remember what is going where.

I need to wire up a null adapter. I have a DB25M-DB25M straight serial cable.
I have the parts to construct a DB25F->DB9F adapter. What wiring pinout do I need to accomplish this?

Well, using NT9.5 via tcpser to local linux box (RedHat9) to lynx into this web site. Let;s see if it works.

Ok, I totally lucked out, Radio Shack had part # 26-1496C (three of them, actually). I plugged this into the VIC-1011A, then connected my serial cable up to it.
On the other end of the serial cable is a Female to Female gender changer, Radio Shack part # 26-228. Connected to this, is a DB25M - DB9F adapter, which then plugs into the PC.
This works just great with BBS Server and Novaterm.
I discovered that my COM1 port is damaged. It can transmit characters to my BBS, but I receive nothing back. I tested with CG Term and simply changed my BBS Server to point at COM1. I can see the BBS respond to keystrokes, but it's blank on the other end. I got the same results when using Novaterm with COM1.
So, I will head down to microcenter now and see if I can find a serial card for a COM3 setup.
