I wanted to get a Speech Synthesizer for my TI-99/4A and I found someone on Craigslist who was selling one for not very much money.
Anyway, the package just arrived today...
I removed the paper and found a small box within FROM "Texas Instruments Incorporated / Lubbock, Texas 79408". Opening the flap, I discovered that the Speech Synthesizer was inside... still in its original plastic wrap!!! Now I'm fighting the collector inside me to keep it in this condition rather than remove it from the plastic and plug it in!!!

Wow.. I'm surprised you were able to buy something from craigslist and have it shipped to you. Most people will avoid that, I know I do. Everytime I list something on ebay, I get about 10 to 20 offers to buy the item from out of state. They are all scams, of course.

I do it pretty often, actually... I know Craigslist "discourages" this, but it isn't "the law."
A pleasant E-mail to the seller is usually all it takes to get the ball rolling. I've never had a problem.

I did vote yes, but also you could buy other speech synth for TI99-4A that is not boxed. Those are not very expensive. Anyway using it makes you more happy than looking box..

What I try and do is get a sealed or unopened original package item to keep as a collector and get an opened unboxed one to actually use or play with.

I'm leaning more towards opening it... I'm more interested in "collecting" Atari computer items than other systems, thus the only reason I purchased this speech synth in the first place was just to play with it. I'll give it a little more thought, though...
If I do open it, I'll be sure to post a YouTube video of the unwrapping!

I thought the speech synthesizers were a dime a dozen. Then after looking at your location, I figured 10p a dozen.
I used to ignore them at hamfests and flea markets. I know I have several lying around, somewhere. I can't make promises, but I'll see if I have any working ones. Things like that in my classic computer collection end up in the bottom of obscure boxes, but I'll see what I can find.

Well, I opened the dang thing and connected it up. I've never experienced the speech from that little synthesizer before and I am REALLY impressed! Thanks for the votes (and comments) that nudged me to go for it. Note, I only paid $10 for the item, btw.

Nice Now you could check if there is connector behind ´front door´. First they were going to expand speech synth with expansion cards, but those never come. I heard that some older TI-99/4A speech synths had expansion port behing ´front door´ and later they did remove it. Oh. I did wonder long, whats idea of that door..

Has anyone ever had any damage done to anything they have left in the package? I know most of this vintage stuff was not packaged in acid free plastic bags so the potential is there.
Besides these things were meant to be used, not sit on a shelf.
