Hi everyone,
I was given a DTV1. It has a date stamp of 041105. It says 'Commodore-64' on the front. It was brand new the box and didn't show any signs of tampering. But when I put batteries in it and hooked it up to my TV I found that it wouldn't move left. Everything else worked but it just wouldn't go left. So I decided to take it apart hoping that maybe it was something simple that I could fix. Well, to my surprise, the little rubber grey thing for the 'joystick-left' was missing! How could such an important piece be missing on a brand new unit? Anyway, I was wondering if somebody had an extra one that they wouldn't mind getting rid of. I live in Lancaster, California. I would be willing to pay a reasonable price for it and shipping.
In the meantime, I took the one from the Right Fire button so that I can at least use it to play games. I haven't seemed to need the right fire button. But I haven't played all the games yet, though.
I love the way you guys turned these into real 64's! I'm planning on getting another one to hack. Though, it seems that the only ones I can find anymore are the DT1 version. (And even these are drying up). I live in the US and I need the NTSC version anyway. But if I understand correctly, you can only turn it into a c64 but you can't reflash the memory to hold different games. What I really wanted to do was to change the games to the ones I like and then put it back into the original joystick case. But I will probably only be able to make a portable c64 out of it. Oh well. That will still be fun. I wish I would have discovered this DTV hacking stuff a long time ago.
BTW, I was trying to click on the page from the DTV wiki about the 'Story of the DTV' but it doesn't seem to work. Does anyone have a good link to that story? I'd like to read it.
Until then, I have gotten my old SX-64 out of the closet and fired her up. Woohoo! She still works! Though the keyboard seems a little flakey. It was used to run a bbs way back in the day, and It's been mod'd with a reset button for the drive, and an on/off switch for the monitor. so it could be left on without burning the monitor. I also brought out a 5V line to use with my SuperGrafix Jr card since the SX doesn't have a cassette port. I still have the SX64, a Starfighter Joystick, a 1351 mouse, a SG Jr card, and an Epyx Fastloader, and a Galaxian cart. I just set it up again today and they all still work. . Ah, those were the days. I also used to have 7 of those LONG 5-1/4 floppy disk storage boxes full of games for the C64 but I lent them to someone about 10 years ago and don't remember who I lent them too! And I've moved several times since them. All those games gone now. I only have a handful of games left that were in the storage compartment above the floppy drive. Which reminds me, is there a way to download the games off of the internet and then load then onto a floppy to use in my SX?
Well, thanks again for re-awakening my excitement for the 64 and I look forward to making a portable one. With your help. But right now, I'm going to go play Raid on Bungeling Bay.
