I just bought the Atari Flashback Game System. For those of you that don't know, it's basically a 'mini' Atari 7800. It has 20 built-in games and two controllers. I bought the system half hoping that the controllers would work with my Atari 2600/C64 but no luck. It has the same type of plug on the joysticks BUT they do not function the same.
When I tried to use them the fire button does the DOWN function that the joystick should do. That is the only thing I can get it to do, nothing else seems to work. Does anyone think that there might be a way to rig this BRAND NEW controller to work the way that they did back in the day?
Thanks! Dark Vulcan RCBBS SYSOP telnet://renaissancecitybbs.dyndns.tv:23

Do you have an old Atari controller you wouldn't mind gutting out? You could swap the internal electronics out. Maybe you can find the schematics of it on the net and internally rearrange the wires. That's got my interest. I never heard of those. I'd certainly like to buy one for my old 2600 if there was a way to get the controllers to work.

If you are interested in getting Flasback system, I got mine at Best Buy. It comes in a orange and red looking box about the size of a small VCR box.
If you do gut out an old controller, please let me know what you find out. DV

I use the joysticks from my "atari flashback" on my 64 and they work excellent!!
I dont really like that flashback thing, kinda wierd.... (And the only thing i dont like about the joysticks is they arent made quite as good (The shafts are not rubber and your hands start aching sometimes using it...)

Still the FB2's joysticks are a little better than the originals NOT the 1977 ones all the ones after the original Heavy Sixer 2600's
I have 2 FB2's and since Im in a retro mood been ordering quite a few homebrews from Atariage
Also been booting my c64 up alot lately for some retrogaming goodness Addicted to c64 ver. of H.E.R.O
nice to see threads over a year ol being brought back info is still relevant
Take care Mike
