I live in a small house, which is also home to my business, so there is very little space to setup more than one 64 at any time. (I own many CBM units, Apple gear, macs, and various other vintage gear.) I got an offer from my chiropractor, (who I suspect is a closet techie) to rent a large basement room, with it's own entrance for use to setup my collection. The room spans around 40'x30' (conservative-approx) A friend (another vintage collector) and I are going to go half's on the location. Commercial location, private entrance, and large facility for an incredible cheap deal. I expect to be able to setup my entire collection and be able to power up any machine in a moment. The Retro Room is about to become reality. Invites for PETSCII forum members to drop in when in the area will be offered.. Jeff

That's really cool Even though I've got quite a bit of room, it still doesn't seem like enough. Hadn't really occurred to me to rent space, though it'd probably be too expensive unless you get lucky, or know someone.

So you'll have to travel to use your retro computers? That's would be the only downside. Come to think of it, you should ask if the power is included...

Power included... It's about a half mile from my house...

Half a mile... That's about 800 meters. 10 minutes slow walk and you're there. Pretty neat! But I guess you'll take the car?

Yeah, I'd never do it because of the inconvenience of walking/driving there. Besides, for me, it just isn't the same to not have the computer at home where I can use it at my leisure. It is part of my house, part of the family almost.
Another thing is I've never really had a desire to have all of my equipment setup at once. I tend to go through phases. Right now I'm in an Amiga phase. So I have my Amiga out.. Next month it may be my Vic-20. You just never know. I have a large collection and often go for whatever machine has not seen the light of day recently. I admit the C16 gets passed over a lot as there just isn't really that much I can do with it. The DTV seems to get the most attention the last few years.

So, phases, eh? Me too, except I usually don't put things away when I start with the next one. Takes a couple of days to tidy things up I'm also not very fond of going somewhere to do what I'd like to do. I'm quite hesitant to walk to my garage 50 meters away to cut, saw, drill or bend something that is not apropriate to do in the kitchen or something. Like using the dremel... But I do walk to the local grocery store sometimes, taking a shortcut jumping over a fence... I'm there within a minute. Walking around on the road takes like 5 minutes.

Jeff's plan is actually quite clever because his wife will never become annoyed by all this retro-goodies and she'll never notice if he adds an item or two. You can only bring home so many computers before you got some 'splaining to do.
