Pretty nifty. I am already using ADT which works quite well, but at some point I might give this a try. I can't tell if there are any advantages other than the menuing system. Oh, and the fact that it doesn't actually write to the disk (or does it?? doesn't seem to). ADT writes to the disk, I know this because I've wiped out the A2 side of ADT a few times now by forgetting to swap disks. ~telengard

Finally got around to setting this up earlier today. Pretty dang slick. The one downside I found is that it's not apparent how to use your own disks which was straightforward w/ ADT. Quite nice though. I imagine the Apple ][ side must have been quite a lot of work. Disks transfer at 115200k which is real fast. If only there could be tools like this for every retro computer I own. Except for the SIO2PC I don't have anything similar for the other computers. X1541 is good but you still need the drive and disks. I may end up picking up a SVD at some point in the future too so I can use images w/ my TI99/4A and Coco. ~telengard

Hey all.
What the game server actually does is load the raw game binary into the apple's memory directly and jump to it after its loaded. So, wherease ADT works with disk images, this works with raw binaries of games (which is why I provided 200+ games with the program for your convienence)
So what of disk images? I am about half way to getting regular disk images to work, which involves replacing the parts of dos that talk with the disk drive out with program code that asks the java program for data instead. This is not too dissimilar from what I've already written, however I have to replace specific sections of code (RWTS, for apple hackers) working with the constraints of memory and locations of the original program components.
As such, once i get this to work it will only be compatible with non-custom "Dos 3.3" based games. Support for others is of course also possible, but at some point it may make more sense to use ADT to get custom os based games to load from a real disk. ;-) I plan to get Dos 3.3 working and then Prodos soon after.
Additional notes A few folks have been nicely reporting their luck (good/bad) with //e+ssc setups and //gs setups. I've figured out through trial and error how to get this thing working on a //e and will have a new release out within a week to address the issues a few folks were having. This is a higher-priority issue than emulating disk images.

The program works excellent and the apple side menu is a nice touch. Ah, I now see why you provided games. Makes sense. ~telengard
