I've been lucky enough to locate a cmd hard drive locally as far as i know its a private import as ive not seen anything to suggest they were available for sale in australia I've been unable to locate docs or manuals for it online with it still being a week from arriving--coming from the other side of the country I was hoping to be prepared with knowledge of how to actually operate the thing, care and feeding etc, also is there a list in existence stating what works or not in them, at this stage I,m guessing it wont be much use for gaming but for single file games i checked cmdrkey but theres not a whole lot of info to be had hoping someone may know of a source of docs. It would be nice to be ready to use as soon as it arrives

KilrPilr started scanning in the docs. I wonder if I get the time if I could help him... not sure how far he got.

He completed the job. See here. Unforunately the file isn't available at that URL anymore. You could always contact him to see if he'll send you a copy. You'll find his email address here.

Actually, if he's in the IRC you're more likely to find him in #cbm8 via irc.newnet.net.

Garth (or anyone else who's interested), If you're unable to get this from KilrPilr, send me an e-mail at wiskow@verizon.net, and I'll e-mail a copy of it to you. I grabbed it from his site before it went *poof*... Somehow, I saw that coming. -Andrew ___________________________________ Cottonwood BBS +1 (951) 242-3593 Open 24/7 at 300/1200/2400 baud hometown.aol.com/cottonwoodbbs

You hit the nail on the head there golan I'm ever so slightly hesitant to try maurice unless as a last resort at this stage im ot even that sure of the capabilities of the device but guess its not going to be all that suitable for gaming but still was worth getting as a storage device was originally waitng to see how jim brains ide device looked when finished but this will at least --hopefully serve my needs as a storage device at the very least its a new accessory to master

If you don't have a pressing need for a CMD hard drive, you're better off using the funds to purchase something else. You know, like a Ferrari or a solid gold toilet. The cheapest and arguably the best mass storage solution for the 64 is 64HDD. It's awfully hard to beat. The as-yet-unavailable IDE64 v4 looks nice but it won't be cheap.

...and the best thing about 64HDD for you, Garth... It's made by a fellow Aussie! -Andrew ___________________________________ Cottonwood BBS +1 (951) 242-3593 Open 24/7 at 300/1200/2400 baud hometown.aol.com/cottonwoodbbs

The drive has landed and gradually I get used to the commands I'm now filling it slowly got the hang of partitioning etc and discovered they take forever to remove when you get things wrong now to seek out hd compatible games etc single filers and copied cassette games work fine i've already filled 1 16 meg partition with those music term runs fine from hard drive novaterm doesnt eventually I'll compose a list of what works of my own software in it, The manual mentions running q-link from it but its a modded version must now see if i can locate a copy

What specifically about Novaterm doesn't work? I've run it successfully from mine for years.
Do you get "file not found" errors? Does it not load protocol/terminal emulation files correctly? If so, most likely an error in assigning a device setting.
