I realise this is little off topic, but does anyone know how the usb cable for an ipod dock (male to male) is wired? I have a whole pile of space usb cables I can use, but I cant find any info of how such a cable is wired (I have had an ipod dock for a while, but it was from a car-boot sale, and came without the cable, a bargain at only £1).
I assume I would just swap the pins over, 1 - 4 2 - 3 3 - 2 4 - 1
but I dont want to kill my ipod, can anyone tell me for sure?

You best take care here. Generally, connector numbering is consistent with the signals, not the pins.
I.E., 1 meets 1, 3 meets 3, etc. So the pins & numbers may be flipped, but if the connectors are numbered, the numbers should match up (the pics on David Murray's site show this very well.)
Schematics are wired to pin numbers, and it doesn't matter if the connector is male or female. Much simpler that way (the routing for male/female is different on the PCB, of course.)

if I wire this wrong, what is most likely to die? the dock or my pc? Not sure--depends how the connections are (mis)wired. Always see lots of ipod dock info on Hack-a-day. In honor of all the visitors they sent today, why not try the ipod section? hackaday.com/category/ipod/
