Ok gang.. I'm homeschooling two children (ages 11 and 14) and need to find some resources. Has anyone got anything on teaching kids BASIC programming? Something geared toward kids in "byte" size portions?
Thanks Jeff

There used to be a few books that taught BASIC programming (C64, Apple, etc) by writing text adventures and simulation games. One was reviewed on the 1MHz podcast, but I can't think of its name at the moment. If I can find where my old books are stashed I will see if I can find the couple that I had.

I didn't get typing up my notes from the 4 sessions I did with 8 kids from our homeschool group yet, but I do still have them around, and I think it worked out pretty well. If you're interested, I might be able to get them online this weekend. As for existing books, "Kids and the Commodore 64" by Edward Carlson is probably the best I've seen. It's split up into many small lessons. I'm guessing that you'd be cool with teaching them on the C-64? Are you going to be at the ECCC? If so, I'd like to talk homeschooling/C-64 with you for a bit

I just found some information on Wikipedia. The Micro Adventure series of books is the one reviewed on 1MHz podcast, and they seem to be pretty good. You can pick copies up for a dollar or so on Amazon.

I've started creating my own materials today. I'd love to get a copy of your notes, as it would save some "recreation of the wheel" I doubt I'm going to make it to ECCC with everything I have going on right at the moment.

Are you looking for homeschool based software to use on the commodore or programming tutorials for kids? I have quite a selection of educational software that came from a christian school, as they had gotten IBM's and sold it all in a lot. I even have some copies of the testing software that the teachers/administrators used as well(ex. McGuffy's Grader, etc.). I'm going to ECCC so I can bring some up if anyone is interested, or if you are looking for something in particular, let me know, I might have in around.
thanx,

Hey, I'd be interesting in checking out what you have, especially if it's not much trouble for you to bring (like, if you've already got it all in a couple disk boxes). Was any of it Christian-education oriented, or was it just general education that happened to be used at a Christian school?
