I've decided to give this a try. I thought before trying to connect with the real C64, I'd try it with VICE first. I have the patched 1.16 version under Windows XP. I have the RS232 port 1 set to 66.135.38.238:5190 and baud rate at 1200. I load quantum link from a 1581 disk image (I got that one since I primarily use a 1581 on my real C64 so when I'm ready I'll transfer that over) I load up quantum link and try to enter the phone number but I can't type any numbers. Everything says I am supposed to type "+5551212" but I can't. I can type "/5551212" but I don't see how it matters as it isn't going to dial anything. So I go on to the connect screen and it tells me to type commands to the modem and press F1. So I press F1 and it says "please wait for network connection" and then just keeps putting +++++++++++++ all down the screen forever. And that is all it does.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

I think you have to type +5551212 On Vice a + is a -. Look at this keyboard that some one else posted:

exactly, why is it necessary that any number be dialed at all? Besides, according to the instructions at www.quantum-link.org it just says hit F1 at that screen and mentions nothing about typing a number. And technically since the quantum link client software is asking for you to type commands to the modem then it shouldn't really matter what number is placed in the dialing box, should it? But then again, I've never used Qlink in my life before.. I was just a broke pre-teen when it was popular.

Hmm. I seem to be getting somewhere but still can't connect. I tried it again a little while ago. Now when I'm at the connect screen and I type in "atdt+5551212" I get a message which I believe is comming from the internet which says "terminal=" no matter what I type there I get the same message. If I hit F1 to connect, then I still get the same screen where it says:
Connecting - + + + + + + + + + + + + + -
and goes on and on..

The point I'd like to emphasize here is that tcpser does the aliasing of "+5551212" into "qlink.quantum-link.org:5190" in order to connect. It sounds as though the alias in tcpser(4j) is not set up properly. Could you post your config file so we could take a look? (config.xml if using tcpser4j, which I suppose everyone is if they downloaded the "easy connect" package. I haven't taken a look at it yet myself.)
