We officially unveiled QuantumLink to the Commodore community on Saturday September 17th, 2005 at the SWRAP Fall EXPO 2005. The response was overwhelming. The demo received applause as the main menu of QLink came up, and I spent about a half hour demonstrating the service, with Jeff Ledger's and Leif Bloomquist's help. We chatted with some of you online, played a game of Sea Strike, read some messages and articles, and showed off the download subsystem.
To do justice to the unveiling, I embroidered CurtisP's QuantumLink RELOADED main menu graphic onto a few black polo shirts. I wore one, Jeff wore the other, and we gave one away as a raffle prize. I didn;t catch the name of the winner, but he was an old QLinker, and had been very impressed by the demo, and was ecstatic to win the shirt. The polo raffle was deemed important enough to do as the last item.
We also printed up a 36" by 48" poster of Steve Kozik's MATRIX-style Quantumlink RELOADED graphic. Description will not do the poster justice. Even if you are not into the MATRIX, the quality was outstanding, and the visual breathtaking, at least in my opinion. Many agreed, remarking about the impressiveness of the poster.
Finally, we printed out some copies of Steve's Q-Link information card onto card stock and trimmed to the original dimensions. We gave them out at the EXPO, and quite a few people took one. Printed in color, they were striking! Thanks, Steve!
We overcame initial TCP/IP connectivity issues to get a half dozen clients up through the day.
Alas, EXPO is over, but I'm glad we were able to show off the progress made thus far. I had a few folks come over and were amazed we had implemented the amount of functionality present.
More details to follow as I debrief and unpack.
