video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3597368934733272040&hl=enUnfortunatly, the MPEG4 compression on google seemed to really kill the comparison shots between composite and S-video, they are far more subtle on the google video than my original. Still, I think you guys will still find it interesting.

Great video...gave me some nostalgia moments when i was playing with my A1000..back in the old days, I hacked my Amiga A1000 where I piggybacked some memory chips and boosted the memory twice the original size. I still have the article but it is slowly fading away (it was a photocopy) and unfortunately I sold that version of mine. I have still the un-hacked A1000 though...will try to look for 4116 mem chips...maybe one day i will revisit it..

Yes, I would be interesting in doing an internal memory mod to my A1000 at some point. Really that is the only advantage my A500 has over my A1000 from a software perspective, since it has an extra 512K mounted in the bottom. I also uploaded this to youtube, and the video quality is a little better, especially on the part where it compares the composite and s-video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDP8cvIXtFY

David...what is the model of your LCD monitor...did i miss something from the video...does your LCD monitor have S-Video input?
One more thing...your videos are very educational..I have compiled them so far and converted them into AVI (i use GVPtoAVI) so I can play your videos on my Palm TX. This helped me a lot when I was hacking my hummer
I you are interested on the article, just PM me...I could probably copy the article and mail it to you..
Unfortunately, i missed owning the A500

Very well done video and even with the less than perfect quality of web video, the improvement was clear to see. I have a few questions about the Neobitz board. How much was it? Is there a version composite and Svideo and another with component video or is it all one board and you choose which connectors to draw out? Last but not least, how do you find the Svideo compares with an RGB monitor like the 1080/1084?
P.S. Interceptor is a great game and it's even better with 1MB (o more) of RAM. You get enhanced sound which really improves the game. If for nothing else, that's a good reason to expand your RAM.

Yes it does.. but that was actually an LCD television.
Am I missing something? What article?
Golan - It is the same board (same PCB) that does S-video and component, but there is an additional IC required for the component side of it which I did not install because mine did not come with it. As for the price, I'm uncertain. I got the impression that he was re-working the price scheme. However, he made me a special deal because I told him I had planned to make this video and I would include a link to his site if he gave me a discount.
Yes.. Actually I was playing that with 2.5 MB of RAM on my A1000. I have something from the day called a "minimegs" which is designed for the A500's side-car attachment. It will fit in the A1000 if you plug it in backwards but it doesn't lay on the ground correctly and puts enormous strain on the A1000 PCB. My solution is when I'm using it, I'll take a stack of floppy disks and put underneath it for support. That is why I took the video from that angle
Oh.. and I wouldn't have even tried that game except for your email about it a few weeks ago. In fact, I was thinking of you when shooting that scene. However, I haven't had a chance to really play the game more than about 5 minutes yet. Although I did spent an hour playing Lemmings this morning and my daughter watched on in amazement, constantly asking questions.
After doing the hack, I've also played a little bit of time with:
The Secret of Monkey Island Nuclear War Maniac Mansion
So far, they've all worked great.. I still have a list of games to go through.

HI David / Golan, Just got a reply on my e-mail from Neobitz..anyone can order from him the kit or assembled ones...the kit is about $30US plus shipping ... AS for David...Re: article...sorry sometimes my thoughts go faster that I type...I meant the article from an old Amiga magazine (Amazing Computing circa 1987) by cris erving on how to add another 512k on the A1000 just by piggybacking some 4464 (i think 18 of them).. here is the article I found on the web minus the schematics, photos... www4.ncsu.edu/~hgm/amiga/1meg1000.hackI have a photocopy of the article..that's what I meant...of course, I don't know if there are still 4464 mem chips around..

If anyone is thinking about ordering, make sure you tell them that David sent you so he'll get discounts on future products.

Really that is the only advantage my A500 has over my A1000 from a software perspective, since it has an extra 512K mounted in the bottom. I upgraded my Amiga 1000 with a 'Spirit' inboard back in the late 80's. Holds an extra 1.5M of memory, also a clock chip. It's the type of board that plugs directly into the CPU socket. The 68K was moved to a socket on the board. Always worked great. You've made me want to find an amigados 1.2 disk, and power up...
