I'm afraid your going to be 1up'd by Ben Heck, he's making a genuine c64 laptop. and for proof, go check out his wii laptop video, in the right hand corner, there's a c64 manual, and when he changes the angle, you can see a c64 mobo in the left corner.
Time to go full size laptop.

I have spoken to Ben about this several times, and he is planning a C64 laptop. But he is going to use the DTV board for it. He originally bought a hummer but was then disappointed to learn that it has no real joystick ports. So he decided to put the project off until he could get a PAL unit and convert it to NTSC. Well, that was the plan last I talked to him which was nearly a year ago.

I'm afraid your going to be 1up'd by Ben Heck Oh, I don't know if I agree with that. Who was the second person to 'find' the North American continent? How about the second person to break the sound barrier? Name someone (anyone) who won the silver in the Olympic 100m dash? Exactly. Full credit goes to Jason for both his excellent work and the fact that he did it first. Second place is a nice way of saying "loser". P.S. For the record, I don't think Ben Heckendorn is a loser. He has mad skills and I look forward to seeing what he cooks up. Jason deserves the gold medal though and I'm fairly sure Ben would agree.

I spoke to SpongeBuell, who was an interview-e on the latest episode of the podcast, and he was thier live, if you listen to it, he admits that he saw the wii portable. Just hearing that I quickly signed on to aim and asked him about it and if he saw a c64 project next to it, and he said he did. He told me that he is still using a hummer.

ABout how much would you say this little gem weighs? Looks like it would give the SX64 a run for it's money hahaha...

You need a harddrive in that thing! Perhaps a 60GB 1.8 inch drive or maybe just a huge notebook HD! The IDE interface already exists. Doesn't look too huge or anything- www.ide64.org/

Getting an IDE64 to work with a DTV/Hummer would be next to impossible. Definitely better off with a flash drive of some sort.

60 gig on a 64???
I remember the good ole Lt. Kernal with it's 40meg. I though that was massive.
My tiny 128mb SD card seems like storage space the size of an ocean.
But 60 gigs???

What a cool project. I have my Hummer hack about halfway done (using the Hummer enclosure), but now I'm thinking... What if you used a portable DVD player as the basis for this hack? Most of the hard stuff is done: LCD, speakers audio amp, case, batteries, charger/adapter. Remove the DVD drive from the lower half (maybe it could be mounted in a cigar box and still used) ;D). The make a new top plate for the Journada keyboard and stuff in the DTV guts and whatever and bingo! Instant Picodore! These DVD players are cheap (eBay, etc.) especially the ones which don't have the wide 16:9 screens. Whaddya think? (This is an Apex PD500 which might be nice for this hack.)

I'm waiting for another Picodore-like project to be posted that makes mine look like crap. I think an adapted portable DVD player would be a cool way to do it. I was pretty far along into my project before I realized the potentional of using one instead of making my own custom wooden case.
What I'm wondering is how the video signal gets from the DVD decoder board to the LCD screen. Unless it's something simple like composite or chroma & luma, it would be a tough hack.

My portable DVD player has an Aux line in for video and audio. I would guess a lot of these types of players also have Aux. line in. It's going to be a while before anyone whips up a DTV hack that can take best of show from your unit me thinks.
