Hi, I wanted to know this, For the interface it has a Female 9 pin plug. So I changed it to a 9pin Male plug. Will a 9pin female to 9pin female null modem cable work? Does the Com1 port work on the 9pin male plug on the back of my computer or do I need to hook up to the LPT port? I am asking before I do something stupid.

Hold on...
Serial devices and printer ports (LPT) do not mix... Results can be very nasty...
What type of device are you interfacing?
Jeff

7404 Off the telebbs interface. So the 9Pin on the back of my computer must be the serial correct?

Yes I know what one is for my printer..so that is not serial.. But the 9 pin must because it is the only one left.

Time to buy a socket... Yes, the 7404, or any chip that matter can be fried with too much heat. Does sound like you are working with the correct port. (9pin male) A quick trip to Ratshack, and pick up a chip socket.. Jeff

Sorry, I routinely cut off the part numbers off packages I get from Radio Shack, as I like the part to fit in my tiny parts chest. If I count the 7404 I have correctly, it looks like a 16 pin socket should get the job done just fine. Rat Shack should have these on the shelf for a couple bucks. I'm curious, where did you get your 7404s? As I understand it, Radio shack has ceased to carry these chips, and the last one's I've seen were covered with dust on the shelves. (which of course I bought ) Jeff

Well radio Shack has a 16 pin socket on there website. BUT! The chip is a 14 pin chip. So I bought the 14 pin socket. As far as the 14 pin 7404 Hex Converter I bought a couple off the web site From Digi Key. I got the info from the Telebbs web page.

Ok, Compairing the Vic and the 64 User I/O pin 2 is +5v on Vic and 64 Pin A and N are ground on 64 and Vic. Pin B is Flag2 on 64 Pin B is CB1 on Vic ***Diffrence here
C is PB0 on 64 C is PB0 on Vic
M is PA2 on 64 M is CB2 on Vic. ***Diffrence here
So this is the pin information. Will it work on these pins on the User I/O or do I need to change the wires on the plug to work on Vic. I do have a 1200 baud Commodore modem on my Vic and Smart Commands do work.. Like ATDT 555-1212 So knowing this hummm..Will it work? Please Help Jeff...
