The user can now enter the Auditorium and I can display the intro text, but when I type something, the client says "Sorry, talking it not allowed in the Auditorium. Press F5, then press F7 to ask a question". So, I press F5, then F7, but nothing happens.
I sent Accepting Questions command, to no avail. Keith: qlinkold:qchat.c is completely empty, but I tried to find an answer there.
Did you ever get Auditorium working?

I believe how they handled Auditoriums was to make it a private room with a funky name. The QGuide could then join normally, but everyone else went via Join Auditorium. Right now, I'm setting all normal users as user #23, which allowe 22 speakers in the room.
BTW, how does one set the binary seat number for seat 10 and 13? I saw elsewhere in the code you used 0x7f and '!' for them. Does that hold treu here?

Bah, never mind. You have to hit F5 twice to get rid of the intro text, then hit F7... I see the options.
qM and qE.
Anyone have a screen shot or description of the Auditorium? I'm assuming the server has to send the screen name and the question to the clients...

Other than what you've gotten, I never got any further.
I like the idea of the private broadcast booth room, tho I'm not 100% sure that is what they did. But I never used the Auditorium as a user, and CERTAINLY never as a presenter.
Do we know anyone who did?

The way the auditoriums worked was like this: The Emcee used a special disk called an Auditorium Disk (I *might* have one) which provided them the ability to talk and control the state of the auditorium, store and send canned text, etc.. When you pressed F5, a menu would appear and one of the options was to submit a question. When you did, it went to a queue which the Emcee had access to. The emcee would bring the speaker "on stage" during the event, at that time their name would appear on stage and they would be able to speak to everyone in the auditorium. The emcee would display the questions they wanted, and the speaker would respond to them. I was remote staff and hosted game tournaments where always started out in the auditorium, so this was routine for me. For what it's worth, the option to "Get Tickets from the Box Office" never was functional. -Keith The user can now enter the Auditorium and I can display the intro text, but when I type something, the client says "Sorry, talking it not allowed in the Auditorium. So, did anything in Enter the Box Office ever work?

Not that I ever saw, it always displayed a message saying the box office was closed. I know someone who should have knowledge about the Auditorium disk though, he's a fellow staff member in VZones and was a former Sysop on Q-Link. I'll ask him if he minds if I give out his E-Mail address, I'm sure he won't mind. -Keith So, did anything in Enter the Box Office ever work? Jim

As we bring the system back up, I'm not sure how I feel about the auditorium needing different disk.
I do want to see it, to see how it operated, but I'm still thinking about how to implement the auditorium without it.

A one point, sometime around 89 I think they added "//" commands, the most common was //roll to dice in the room. I think they used other // commands to do things like mute users and initiate SID playback through the "Music Connection" interface. Maybe you could eliminate the need for an auditorium disk by duplicating the needed functions via // commands?
