Hi everyone.
I've been working with Leif's Telnet BBS Server v1.3 and my Wildcat 4.x BBS system (MS-DOS software). I have for my testing purposes a laptop with XP Pro on it. This is the Telnet BBS Server. It is connected on Com1 to my Win98 system that is running Wildcat in a DOS Window. There is a NULL modem connector that connects the laptop's COM1 to the Win98 system's COM1 which is also the COM port that Wildcat is set to use.
I was having lots of trouble early on. Basically Wildcat was not getting any signal from the Telnet BBS Server, but the Telnet BBS Server was receiving connections via telnet. Anyhow, I tried tinkering wit hteh modem configuration screen in Wildcat and I set the "Determine Ringing using" Auto Answer. Before that I was using Ring Detect and Ring REsult, but neither method would allow Wildcat to detect an incomming connection. Once I tried Auto Answer Wildcat began seeing the signal coming over the NULL Modem connection and it tries to establish a connection. Everything looks liek it is going well until the BBS gets stuck with the status display of "Waiting for Modem Verbal Result Code" The BBS will then either sit there for a bit and dump back to DOS or just reset the connection attempt and go back to "Waiting for calls..."
I've tried everything I could think of and it seems I'm getting close, but still not connected. What I wanted to ask is:
1. Are there any other Wildcat 4.x Systems out there that are using Leif's Telnet BBS Server v1.3 to connect their telnet users to their dialup BBS software? If so and you've got the connections running with two PCs and a NULL modem cable, please tell me how you did it. What settings did you use and/or tweak on the BBS side and the Telnet BBS Server.
2. In case there is a problem with Wildcat v4.x and Leif's program, are there any other software packages out there that do the same thing as Leif's program? I've seen virtual com programs, but those appear to run on the same PC as the BBS software. Once I get through this testing phase, I plan on having the following setup.
Telnet Server AMD Athlon with 512MB RAM and Win XP Pro
NULL modem cables on both Com1 and Com2 ports
Pentium 133 system running DR-DOS and Wildcat v4.x for DOS.
Com1 and Com2 on the Pentium 133 DOS system will be connected to the other ends of the NULL modem cables.
The BBS software won't run on the AMD Athlon system, so I needed and purchased off of eBay an old 486/Pentium class system and installed DR-DOS on it. So, I kind of have to stick to the above mentioned layout of 1 Win XP Telnet Server PC and 1 old DOS based PC running Wildcat.
I really HOPE someone here might have successfully gotten their Wildcat v4.x software working with Leif's program. If anyone has, please let me know how you did it.
Thanks and sorry for my rambling.
