Well i've recently aquired a C64C..No video conection (Making a trip to the shack tonight) Might be able to pick up an old rf modulator at one of the game stores. Purchased 2 1541 Drives I hope they have serial cables.. Intransit....(Goto get DSDD disks). Searching for din conector and lpt conector... and 6 wire cable (Goto make an XE-1541 conector HDD64.) Have a Used pc i've aquired (Mass storage) Still working out how to interface to the internet...Big decision spend ducets or go cheap... I mean thrifty... Oh and have a 64DTV as well that is on the project block... Now all i need is time and some goals, and a bit of patience.

You certainly have come to the right place. Regarding connecting the 64 to the Internet, there's a discussion on the Quantum Link Reloaded board (see jledger.proboards19.com/index.cgi?board=qlink&action=display&thread=1140108135) which you might want to read. It gives a pretty good overview as to the different options and which are compatible with what software. Welcome back to the Commodore world.

Well No luck at radio shack.. No din connectors... no diodes... And worst of all no Video cord.. Can i just make an rca to f-connector cord to run it into the tv? Until i can get an 8 pin din to make the S-video conector? or atleast composit conection? ... My drives will be here soon i canont wait. Mabye UPS will drop them off today... I may have to mail order the DIN connectors.. and looks like I'm going to opt for the Turbo-232 option... Since it looks like i'm not going to find the edge connector or diodes i need at the local electronics shop.. Radio shac has really moved away from the gadget market.. I can't even get the parts for the xe1541 cord. I may just have to get everything pre-made (I'm to impatient to wait for all the components to roll my own. ) Well goto get back to it.

I was able to create a 5pin to to composite interface using an old AT keyboard cord and butchered RCA cable. Specs from a google search. You might be able to route that through a VCR for "video in" for the video side. Of course, if you've got the standard 64 video/audio cable, Radio Shack/Walmart should still stock an adapter box that takes those inputs and provide a COAXAL connection to standard TV. Make sure you take a look at telbbs.petscii.com for some "cheapie" interface plans when you start working on internet connection. Either way.. welcome back! Jeff

You might consider going to oldsoftware.com for the interface and cables you need. I've been busy trying to build an rs232 adapter to get my board back online but got tired of running to the parts store and trying to find the time. I did a search and came across the above site. I ordered a "new" aprotek com-modem adapter for $34 from them on Monday and got it today. Was a pretty good find if you don't want to hassle building your own. Now all I have to do is replace my CIA chip, which I discovered to be bad, and I should be back online after my 10 year vacation from commodore <grin>.

Well after a few trips back and forth i did come up with a Nifty idea.. I cut a standard RCA connector and half of a Coaxil cable little bit of twisting some solder and electrical tape and Voila a rf adaprter was made. Granted the picture is not the cleareast nor is it noise free, but it works. So with a great feeling of accomplishment i have a working c64c. One piece at a time. Hopefully my 1541's get here soon and i'll have some form of storage. I figure if i butcher one of the drive serial cables i should be able to make the XE-1541 cable and connect it up to the pc as well. I think i may use Vice to start configuring a bbs system. In anticipation of getting a bbs up and running. I've spoken at length with Piniacolada a few times and have quite the resource of knowledge here it appears. I was lucky enough that in my Ebay purchase The Original Quantum link disk may have been included. I even have the Mint keygboard over lays Which i am debating on weather to seperate them and use them or just photocopy so i have The mint ones as a piece of history. I am also probably going to make an image of the q-link disk so i can run of the backup. So lot of plans ahead and the future is loking brite. The wife is kindof looking down on the project. I replaced my EYEsore of a ham radio (Went the way of the angels) with my c64 project. Mrfixit2k

Explain to your wife that no matter how crazy you go with this project, it won't cost very much money. If your new project was restoring a vintage car, building a boat or fiddling with high-end audio equipment you could drop a few grand in an afternoon. The 64 is relatively harmless.

Some how i don't think it's the cost. She's trying to get me to move out to the garage .. I think her biggest fear is that i'm going to start conecting cables to The family computer ... she is always scared that i'm going to wreck it. I figured with the extra PC it would not be to bad.. it was donated to me by Good old mom and dad but i think that i still may need to run some cables and set up the telbbs softwere on the family computer.. I'm not sure if i can run 64hdd and use that same computer as a telnet server. Will find out soon enough.

You could always buy an old PC for next to nothing to dedicate to the task. Around here, such machines can be had readily in the $25-$50 range and they'll do just fine. Heck, you could probably get one for nothing by asking around. People are always upgrading (when they don't need to, that's another discussion altogether) and the old PCs often end up in the garage or, worse yet, on the curb. Those kinds of machines are perfect for 64HDD and BBS Server.

Well i've got the second pc donated from good old mom and dad. ... Was just wondering if i would need two of them one for the 64hdd and one to act as the telnet server. or if it were possible to use Just one two serve both functions?

Yes, the response time is faster then my browse time ... Just read that response. Thanks for the heads up. I'll figure something out. Out of necessity comes invention.
