Come to think of it, I know there was a Networking feature in DS2 as well, because we were working on a local network in and around Calgary called the Wild Rose Network. (Hence the label on one of my DS2 disks.) I'm really looking forward to going through it again. I'd also be very interested to know what sort of addons you had in that d81 image... nudge nudge wink wink John Wow, very cool you got DS2 running, at least partially! Oh, I can send you the DS2 .D81 image, no problem. It's at home, I'll put it on my to do list. I ended up getting web space on GeoCities (yeah, yeah, but it's free) and I'll end up putting up a project page there for Image BBS and my Totally Awesome Dungeon Adventure game at some point. I have some of the HTML, but it's in poor shape, I need to tighten it up, break it into multiple pages, etc. It'll take time. Everything does...

Okay, well, I have the gzipped .D81 file for you. Looks like just basic DS2 networking stuff, there's 2 .SDA files and I broke each .SDA file into its constituent files also on the disk image. Can I email you the stuff?

By all means, please. I've found some more DS2 disks but it looks like a lot of it was hacked by my friend Jeff Crawford back in the day. I've only got one modem file, for the old style 1670 which, of course, does not accept Hayes commands... I *have* a 1670 modem, and perhaps I'll be able to use it in the interim, but so far that is definitely going to be one of the hurdles to getting it hooked up to a PC. I can get it to enter the configuration program and set up all the BBS settings - but then when it prepares to enter Local Mode (the 'waiting for call' mode) - it usually breaks with an error message, sometimes going to a Ready prompt, other times dropping me at the Main prompt of the BBS. So I must have a corrupt or modified "Local Mode" dsp file. Or perhaps it's the one from the network version and I haven't converted the rest of the files to the network versions? I'm still trying to figure it out but without "good" copies of the unmodified files, it's like trying to get Red, Green, and Blue from the brush water... Things are pretty murky at this point. BUT, I have already remembered a few of the things I really liked about DS2:
1. Local Mode features - when at the waiting for call screen, the Sysop can edit users, run DSP files, view the logs, read feedback, send email, change system parameters, validate new users, etc. VERY feature-rich local mode. 2. The cursor has an ML routing that makes the middle of it spin like a clock, using the C= characters. Looks neat from [this] end. 3. Call bank - Users can 'save' unused minutes from one day / call to be used on other days / calls.
... more as I get farther into the program and am able to stabilize more areas of the board.

Oh ya - email them to commodore collector {dohickie} cubeinc decimal net. Take out all spaces and the dohickie is the at sign. The first day I posted a message to comp.sys.cbm I started getting spam on my newly created email account... Swine spammers... That's one thing I really loved about the BBSes - NO SPAM!
Thanks Pina,
John

Well, tell ya what. I put the gzipped disk image here: www.geocities.com/sym_rsherwood/ds2net.d81.gzI don't know squat about DS2, but it looks like just standard networking stuff. You'd know better than I. I'll make a note of your email tho, for future reference.

Thanks Pina, I've grabbed the d81 and will take a look at it tonight. In the mean time, duty (and more specifically, work) calls... Much appreciated though.

*bump* John, I need to see your Image stuff. I'll give you the Image 1.2B disk and docs too. And seeing how we have tcpser1.0rc12 now with IP232... Just can't get it to run yet.
