Picking up Espen Skog's post (but I decided to make a separate thread). I too have been checking this forum once in a while, and unfortunately the traffic here has dried out. If anyone has been doing DTV hacking for the past year or two, it would be cool to hear about it. Maybe it could even get some of us interested in working on something DTV-related again. Personally I still have a bunch of DTVs, still in their original packaging, that I wanted to apply my color-fix to, and put a custom collection of games on it, then give it to friends as presents. I have the entire setup, including the ability to compile a custom image and transfer it to the DTV with only minimal soldering - just didn't have the time to actually do it. Also, one thing, that has kept me back is that there are still a few games I would like to DTV-fix. Speaking of which: if anyone has DTV-fixed games that should be in the repository ( symlink.dk/nostalgia/dtv/fixed/ ), just let me know.

Hi there, I have also taken my dtv out of its box after more then 4 years. it came back to my attention after trying to run fort Apocalypse on c64 emulator on my iPad and it does not work well. This game is THE best game ever (well that is my opinion of course) Ii modded my dtv already in the past But i realize i dont have a parallel port anymore!
In order to flash a new image on it i need to have some kind of comm with my pc.. Any idea if there is i serial or usb mod on the web some where?
Or we start with it if not exiting....

picobay.com/dtv_wiki/index.php?title=DTVTrans- dtv2ser seems to be what you are searching for. A cheap PCI printer port card would probably also work (with a normal DTVTrans cable). USB-LPT adapters do *not* work. Back on topic, I also have some half-modded DTVs sitting around. That'll probably stay that way indefinitely . Concerning games, I think Raid over Moscow and Beach Head I and II would be cool (as they were somewhat controversial back then). These use the TOD timers though. Spiff, didn't you have experience with fixing TOD games? Also, Katakis still isn't available. I guess patching it for the DTV should be quite simple. I ran it briefly using vsfReanimator; it works fine (sound is a bit odd due to missing filters) so only patching the level loader should be necessary.

Sorry about the late reply Spiff, didn't you have experience with fixing TOD games? Hmm, I did experiment with it - for fixing Up'n'Down. I must admit I can't remember exactly what I tried, and what I didn't try. Did I use the raster interrupt or one of the CIA-timers - dunno (but I think I could find the code). Unfortunately I never managed to fix Up'n'Down. If I recall correctly, I was having problems where sometimes the summing/counting in my timer was way off - something like a missing carry, so instead of returning 39 sec it would return 29. The other thing that stalled the Up'n'Down fix was that there is a timing problem already, when running on PAL. I searched for the longest time for a PAL-version, but even the ones that say they are for PAL are not (music in the menu runs double speed, and when playing the game, the fastest possible time to complete the first level is 34 sec, not 29 as it is when running NTSC). So because I could not decide what to do about this I unfortunately stalled I have very little spare time, but the last couple of months I have been thinking several times about doing some DTV patching. Unfortunately, thinking about it is not enough ;D

Wow... I just remembered this forum the other day and thought it must have been a year since I visited it. But no... it was three years ago! *gasp* Anywho, I have the modded one, and two DTV's still sitting in their hexagon plastic box. Not done a thing during these years. That's... kind of depressing to think of.

I too stopped by this board just now after being without a computer at home for months after some moving process. I figured I should check out this site to see how things are. I suspected that there is not much more cool to do with the DTV (well -- obvious things, that is) but I thought that maybe someone had pulled out some magic tricks on their DTV My DTV is fully modded. I have it in a small casing. It has all the "general" ports like joy 1+2, userport pins, the ps2 port and the rest of the like the svideo. I applied colorfix. And I modded the rom so that I can boot into several kernals. I also added a 1541-III-DTV with a Display aswell so I can load from the SDIO card and browse the d64 files on the display using the up+down and select button I added. Then I applied the fully working jiffydos kernel to my custom kernel-meny (which I get after a reset) so that I can load prg-files from the d64 images without having to wait foreeeveerrr..... It WORKS so great that when I had everything working, I put it all in the drawer since I found no more cool stuff to do with it...well..apart from actually using it, that is Anyway -- the box is a great device to bring on trips. Hook up to hotel tv´s and stuff like that.... Just thought I would share

Hi Robert. I do have some images. I think I might have posted them somewhere aswell, but I could not find them on this machine. Think I need to restore from a backup I did before I moved. The box is not really pretty and I planned to put all inside a new and nice polished box when I got all working. Maybe that is a good project I should start on again

Has anyone had success hooking up wireless keyboards to the DTV ? I have two playstation->c64 adapters which I planned to build into the unit and then buy two wireless psx controllers so that I could use my dtv wirelessly Never tried the adapters as I had no wireless psx controllers and I sold my modded psx-1 some time ago...but what the heck. I would work in theory

Hehe....it works great I really like how jsailly tweaked the firmware and worked hard to get the timing right for his 1541-III-DTV card reader with c64dtv when using a JiffyDOS kernel. It is so kicking-butt-tastic to be able to choose the D64 file from the small backlit (blue led of course..hehe) LCD display using the UP/DOWN and SELECT button and then have it ready as a #8 unit directly on the DTV to load the PRG files from ...AND to have them load megafast with the jiffydos fastloader in the kernel.....how c00l is that ...let me answer that...it's WAY cool

After all these years, I actually did some DTV hacking the last couple of weeks I wonder if anyone still follows this forum The perfect occation: A friend of mine turns 40, and his wish list was rather short. Since we have had several retro computing events together (but some years ago last time), I thought that a DTV with a custom collection of games was a perfect gift. The party is this Saturday, but I have no fears that he will know about it, even if I post here before I give him the present. Here is what I did: - built a custom image, tested with VICE. A few of my customizations required me to get a C64 cross assembler set up, so this was a fun journey as well.
- Applied the Spiff luma-fix.
- Soldered a DB9 connector on UP/DN/LT/RT/FIRE, GND connected to power supply.
- Power supplied through battery terminals from a lab supply.
- Used dev2ser (updated FW/SW from 0.3 to 0.5) to bootstrap using on screen keyboard, and then sync the flash
I did experience a few problems with verifying the flash. Some sectors failed, and I had to retry several times. In the end when I did compare, there were a couple of comparison errors somewhere in the 0x030000-0x040000 range, but not always the same sectors. Of course I cannot verify if the errors are in the flash or in the verification, but the dtv2ser verification/benchmark steps were all OK. Anyone seen anything like this?

Hi Just stopped by to see if this forum still was kicking. I haven't done any DTV hacking in years but still planing on connecting a PS/2 keyboard I salvaged to my DTV. When I do turn my DTV on I'm still annoyed with the long loading time in Zak McKracken so I'm planing to fix that as well. At some point... Spiff, this reminds me of the bug I fixed in Zak McKracken 5 years ago. I don't think that version ever made its way in to the repository.

Hey, I just pulled out my hummers and started working with them and the uno2iec project. So far loading data from PC with atmega328 IEC emulator is working but looks like the PC code and avr code could be cleaned up and polished a bit so I might work on it some more.
Hope to hear some more signs of life for the DTV out there 8)
