Just finished my DTV2 hack -fitted on a Daytek DVD portable player (dvd mechanism was broken but the AV circuits are ok and was put to recycle--cost me $5) in time for my Christmas holidays. I received a DTV2 from UK for almost a give-away price of $8 which was the core of the project on hand. The Daytek player is capable (sense automitcally) displaying PAL or NTSC video. Also I had a 1541-iii been sitting in my workbench for a long time. If you want to view the pictures, here are the links: The project with cover exposed (cover will be a plexiglass) Normal 4:3 screen aspect The 16:9 aspect Some links to parts preparation, connectors the close up of the boards The Daytek circuit board has all the power source for the project and the external battery I called it almost portable - however, the Daytek unit also serves as a external display for my other projects namely the Parallax Propeller ucontroller (thanks to Jeff - OBC for inspiration) Here are my 2 favorite DTV Hacks (The Hummer LiL64 and this one) I would like to thank JSailly (Jussi) for his support in re-flashing my 1541-iii ( it was one of the earliest version so it is ow up to date) and to Critty of UK (a Lemon64 member) who got rid of the DTV2 to me for just $5 plus mailing. Nice. Would you be able to fit a small kbd over the DTV motherboard somehow ? That'd be awesome :-)

Thanks everyone for the comments.
Espen: I have thought of that but my smallest PS2 (and most compatible) keyboard is the one you see in the picture. I can no longer find any PDA keyboard like the Jornada kybrd that was implemented in Jason Winter's Picodore.
Also, I use that keyboard as well for my Parallax Propeller microcontroller projects. This propeller has AV out as well as PS2/mouse inputs.
So I put them all in a small briefcase when I go out of town (days off) and is easy for me to put them away (Jeff Ledger's idea again...)
The only thing left for me is do the Video mod as well as some flashing of the games (not the kernal). However, i'd like to learn more how to put the games I want or use Ebster's collection which I think is a very good collection (thanks for sharing Ebster).
I have 2 more Hummer DTVs left and are still in their original Hummer Toy (RShack) --probably keep them that way as my current interests have shifted to Easy Flash and Amiga CF Hard drive conversions.

I just had to comment on this one. I had a bloody nightmare on doing this. Mostly because I thought it was more complicated than it was :-) But as soon as I grasped the concept of the layout it was incredibly easy and I feel like a über-lamer for not grasping this right away If you don't bother to make a dtvtrans-cable, you can flash VERY easy if you have a 1541-3 connected or something similar to transfer the flashrom file from e.g a PC to the SDIO card. Let me know if you want a very detailed how-to on this. I'd be happy to write one. //Espen .: enjoying his c64dtv in a new box with flashed rom + all connectors + 1541-3 ::...

Thanks Espen. I finally got back at my DTV hacking. I am planning to flash some fav games into it and would like to try to do the following: 1. Flash with a game image like Ebster's collection 2. Create my own
I noticed that some "modified / DTV fixed" games do not work when I loaded them thru my 1541-III SD Card. Maybe I failed to type in the proper "run" command

I noticed that some "modified / DTV fixed" games do not work when I loaded them thru my 1541-III SD Card. Maybe I failed to type in the proper "run" command Just a quick note: All the DTV-fixed games in the repository are suitable for running from flash, and most of them (but not all) should also work if loading them from an IEC device or similar. There are some multi-part games that have been patched to load from flash, and they are technically not a single file. These will not load correctly from other devices. It is fairly easy to build your own collection using dtvmkfs or dtvfsedit. Try to build an image with the games you like, and probably a menu, and check it out in VICE before attempting to flash it. AFAIK You can also practice the flashing on VICE.
