Hi, I'm posting in this section of the forum because I see that thise earlier thread Epson HX-20 was posted in this section a year ago. I have been looking for an HX-20 emulator for quite some time, knowing that my beloved machine will one day give up the ghost. Things have got a bit closer to that day now I think, because I changed the batteries and accidentally connected to the mains before the batteries were in properly *screams gently* so I think I've "broken" the LCD. The machine powers on fine, but the LCD remains blank. If anyone has any tips on fixing the LCD, I would be grateful. Also, if anyone can say that the intention to add an HX-20 driver to MESS, stated in the above-mentioned thread Epson HX-20 , is actually going ahead, I would kiss their feet Carolyn

Hope it's okay to reply to myself -- I talk to myself a lot in Real Life First off, I am relieved to say that my dear old Epson HX-20 has revived, I left it switched off for a few weeks, which of course meant the batteries were flat when I next switched on. When I came to recharge the batteries and switched on, eureka! The screen had recovered. So a tip for anyone who has done as I did, and accidentally plugged briefly in to the mains without the batteries in situ, just let the machine rest for a while and the screen should recover. In the meantime, I have found that someone is currently working on an emulator, although there is a long way to go www.frigolit.net/index.pike/projects/view?id=4And for anyone who wants more info than you could possibly want on the machine, here are some more links. I expect you already know at least some of them, but just in case : Epson official downloadable documents www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid=14492&infoType=DocFantastic resource, including memory dumps, memory map, opcode table and programs galore www.geocities.com/abcmcfarren/hx20/hx20.htmmore info and programs home.arcor.de/magnos/ccg/introccg.htmlwww.old-computers.com/museum/photos.asp?t=1&c=143&st=1Lots of pictures. Mine is the silver version and has been working for me since I bought it, way back when it was first released in, if my memory serves me right, 1983. I bought it in Singapore on my way to a year in Medan, Indonesia. Boy was I lucky to choose this machine, because in my naivety it never struck me that anything might go wrong with it while I would be unable to get it fixed. I never had any problem with it whatsoever, which is not something I could say for today's monster PCs. When I returned to the UK, I bought a RAM extension which was not the official external box, it was a card which could be fitted inside the machine. That also has given no problems, and my massive 32K machine is as neat as it was when I purchased it
