Well, seems like time caught up to the harddrive, no longer sees the drive the controller is an adscsi ST. in the drive utils it shows the drive but not a partition, and attempting to create a partition leads to no hard drive being installed.
scans bus and finds both HD and CDROM
also the 520STfm is DOA. powers up, white screen with moving horz line partials, going to open it up and reseat the chips, clean up, etc
have not tried the scanner. but even with these problems getting the STe 4meg 2 mono hires and 1 color monitor, mice, joystick was a win

I love the not knowing what ones doing when ones doing it! reseated all the chips in the 520STfm no go, ended up reading an atari forum and have been led to believe its bad memory, next step is to add 30 pin or 72 pin memory as per techie_alison uk.geocities.com/techie_alison/pub/Dscf3575.jpg on atariage While playing with the 1040ste i found an extendedDOS disk among all the diskettes in the boxes and was able to get the cdrom working so it appears the HD is prob done

Nice! Keep us updated. My 1040STe is now sitting in a big plastic container along with a ton of other hardware...
