WHOA!!!
I managed to solder the new chip to place (can't believe I pulled it off), now the DTV is working again!
The soldering method was a bit unorthodox, but it went fast and clean - multimeter checking for shorts took a lot more time as I wanted to be sure I'll not short the new chip.
HUGE THANKS TO JSAILY for the replacement chip - what a fellow! He sent it to me not wanting anything for the chip or the trouble of mailing. It's heartwarming to know that some people are willing to help others for nothing else than the joy of helping!

 Great news! Congratulations on your soldering skills, it's pretty tight down there. And thanks to Ziili for programming the chips. Now I need to get a TSOP48 adapter too for my Willem eprommer...
