I'm sure I brought this up before, but I'm still interested in making an RS 232 interface using the Maxim MAX233 chip. I remember seeing Jeff Ledger had a schematic for one in getting the C64 online. I had a question about some of the connections that seemed "questionable" at the time with my limited electronics background. Any advantage to using this chip?

The MAX233 can be used in any design that uses a MAX232 IC, although the pinout is different.
The advantage to the MAX233 is fewer parts (no caps required) The disadvantage is cost. You pay quite a premium to skip the 4 caps (caps are $0.15 or so, and the MAX232 is $2.00 cheaper than the '233)
