Hi, I'm about to hack my dtv1. But I have some questions first. I understand that I can only hook up a PS2 style keyboard. Most PS2 keyboards have a numeric keypad and a cluster of cursor keys, etc. on the right side of the keyboard. But the mods I've seen only have the basic keys on the main left part of the keyboard? How is this done? Can I gut an old IBM compatible laptop and use its' keyboard?
Also, I've seen you guys use LCD screens. How do you know how to hook up the LCD screen? Is it a LCD screen with a composite input? Would it be possible to use a lcd screen from a pocket PC or maybe a laptop LCD screen? I have an old laptop that I would love to gut and use for a DTV. But I have no idea how you would interface into the laptop's LCD screen.
Thanks, Paul

All of the existing hacks that I am aware of that use LCDs use ones with composite inputs. A popular choice is the PS-One LCD screen.
As for the keyboards, those are just regular space saving keyboards that can be found in computer stores like Fry's or on ebay, etc.

Do you plan on putting the connectors right on the joystick? If you aren't going that route, what kind of enclosure will you be using? I just stuck mine in a Radio Shack project box, someday I'll transplant it in something else. Maybe one of those portable DVD players with a small keyboard.

I have NOOOOO idea. I kind of like the laptop idea. Then I was thinking it might be cool to do something different. But I can't figure out what. Any ideas?

How about a real Kempston Microswitched Competition Pro Joystick? So much better. But a bit of a sidegrade..

Nice! I also saw where someone made a mini-tower. That was pretty cool, too. And another one I saw was built right into a keyboard. I may do something like that. But the keyboards I have don't seem to have enough room.

I don't know how feasible this would be but I just thought of something that would be cool. How about a handheld type device with a slide out keyboard like the new phones.
