Had some trouble with an FBAS=>VGA converter ("Geniatech V2V Pro") that didn't sync properly with a PAL DTV2 (picture kept 'scrolling' to the left). This was fixed using POKE 53311,1:POKE 53326,2 which sets $D04E/"Scan line timing adjust" to 2 (0 is default I think). In case someone else has similar trouble, perhaps try that.

Now you come up with this, a few months back I couldn't get a converter to work and finally sent it back, all three units I got had this sideway-scrolling.
Is it possible to make this a permanent setting? And how likely is it that some software sets it back?

What happens if I try to use the new DTVSlimIntro with a "Brotbook" - NTSC modded DTV2 ($D04E=$0a). I don't think this is a good idea to integreat video-timings into software. I have to use NTSC timings to get a picture on my TFT and I cannot use TLRs Colour-test-programm because it switches to PAL timings. Now DTCSlimIntro will mix them up as well? If I want a special setting I can patch my kernal! (OK, I should not say this after my problems flashing a Hummer-PAL-Kernal )

See the DTVSlimIntro wiki page. It doesn't touch D04E by default. It supports setting D04E using the DTV buttons. If you want to hardcode a default D04E value, you have to patch DTVSlimIntro before flashing it. This is necessary as not all screens work fine with D04E other than 0 but display slight distortions (moving patterns for some colors etc.).

That's perfect! Have you ever tried $0A (The value from NTSC settings) ?

I have the feeling that 0 is PAL-wise the correct value but only some timing side effect of D04E=2 leads to a stable picture with in FBAS=>VGA converters (while generally D04E=2 is not correct). Higher values lead to bigger distortions/moving patterns on my quite forgiving PAL hardware; with D04E=10 for example grey text on green background is completely unreadable with that value as far as I can remember.

I tested different values with my PAL Hummer (00, 02 and 0A) with a 1084 monitor. 00 is OK with thie monitor but 0A has less distortions than 02. I havn't tested my TFT which has problems with an unpatched DTV2 PAL signal. With my NTSC mod the picture was perfect (standard PAL and NTSC C64 had a perfect picture as well) and I thought this value is probably the reason for the bad picture?!

The PAL picture quality issues the PAL DTV exhibits in general are probably not related to D04E at all. AFAIK nobody did a true analysis of the DTV PAL signal so far. I think with D04E you can only fix the "scrolls sideways"/"does not sync" problem with certain FBAS=>VGA converters. This is only one of the issues the DTV PAL signal exhibits.
