I suspect I'll have to master more ML to do this, but I wanted some comments on possibility.
Can some of the experts give me an idea of what it would take to create a new BASIC keyboard which would toggle bits on/off on the userport?
I know how to toggle these bits with standard POKE/PEEK commands, but no idea where one would start to create a new reserve word in basic to do this.
Any takers?

Based on his next paragraph, I'm sure he does I was pretty confused at first... There are at least a few ways of adding new commands. Dave Moorman is using one method in his new Dot Basic. Hopefully he'll share some info here. He's written articles on it that have been published in Loadstar. Transactor magazine had quite a few articles on the subject, and I seem to remember at least one good article in RUN about it. But anyway, here's the first in a series of Transactor articles all about adding commands to BASIC. It's not as "how to" as I'd like it, but it should give you a start (there's a source code listing about 5 pages in). There are probably better examples in the magazine archive too. cbm.csbruce.com/~csbruce/cbm/transactor/v5/i5/p030.html
