There's another 1541 disk drive replacement project that is interesting enough to warrant mentioning here. Behold the 1541 "Ultimate" which is an implementation of the 1541 disk drive in an FPGA. This device looks promising and could end up being capable of far more than it was originally intended for.
That said, it's great to hear about another 1541 replacement project. As I've mentioned before, I'm really keen on having a mass storage device for my VIC-20, and 1541 emulation is the best way to go about it.
There is two versions under development, 99EUR with smaller flash and 119E with bigger one. First production round is going to happen during February 2008 (and the pre-orders are for that). This information is from that retrohackers forum thread and from pre-order mailing list.
