Only get this if your computer has a parallel port as this is a parallel port programmer, not USB. It can use USB for power, but all commands are through the parallel port. Info on this type of programmer: www.willem.org/

I have the exact same one and it works fine. A bit tedious to use with the DIP switches, but no complaints about the results.
I was confused by the auction title - it comes with a 27C256, but will burn 27C512's as well which is probably sufficient for most 8-bit stuff.

And you can buy an adapter to support 16 bit eproms. It's really a nice package, minus the dip switches.

I have two of these types, one is like the unit you show and one also has 32pin PLCC socket and a 3.3V PLCC socket as well. Which covers almost all modern PC BIOS chips as well. I use mine for Gameboy roms and BIOS chips. I have only had one rom go bad so far, my EPROM for my AD600 DVD player (no Macrovision ;D) flipped a few bits after more than a year. I still think it was the EPROM and not the programmer that did that, I may have over cooked it in the UV eraser. Both programmers work for me in XP and Win98 via LPT and the replacement burn in my AD600 has been working for almost two years since I replaced it.
