Yeah, thats so cool. I cant wiat for mine to turn up. Get me away from the PIC for a while. I have loads of LCDs with that pinout, id like to run some of my graphics ones though. I have a 320x200 lcd i was going to hook up to a pic but never got the power supply sorted for its odd requirements.

I have loads of LCDs with that pinout, id like to run some of my graphics ones though. I have a 320x200 lcd i was going to hook up to a pic but never got the power supply sorted for its odd requirements. From what I've seen so far, there are only a limited # of drivers included w/PSoC Express--LCD drivers, for instance are part of the Service Pack 1, and not included on the CD. The LCD drivers are fairly limited. This might be part of the motivation by Cypress to gift these kits--get more drivers written by 'enthusiasts.' There are probably graphic LCD modules in Designer that can be added (write the driver) to Express. I expect more drivers to appear at intervals. A 'PSoC Express' project can be loaded and edited in 'PSoC Designer', where there are many more 'user modules.' The integrated C compiler in Designer is $145 USD--but it does come into play with the Express code....Not sure what is, and what is not editable in Designer. 'custom.c' IS editable in Express, without the C compiler purchase. And many modules in Designer are in C, and still usable w/out buying the compiler. Assembly code is fully supported in Designer.
EDIT Not grousin' here. Where else could you design a project like this in 10 minutes, from scratch?

yay. Mine arrived today! Its quite cool, didnt realise I got 2 of everything... Just one programmer though. Anyone done anything cool yet? Ill solder an LCD on tomorrow ( ribbon cable instead of pin header on the lcd as its 2rows, same problem..)
How do I get the LCD drivers into it?
Are you suggesting that we can edit C code in the express version? Or that we need to buy a full "designer" program to do C?
Can you share modules written in designer with your friend who only has express?

Got mine today! Everything looks cool, now I just have to figgure it out and what to do with it. As you can tell I have never done anything like this before so here is a really silly question....... are the chips erasable or are they one shot chips?

How do I get the LCD drivers into it? If you install service pack 1, they are one of the 'Output' devices. Several 'Output' devices, actually.... Are you suggesting that we can edit C code in the express version? Or that we need to buy a full "designer" program to do C? Yes. No. Maybe. (Since you can load an Express project into Designer, maybe quite a bit. You can certainly load all the C source into an editor.) Can you share modules written in designer with your friend who only has express? ? Don't know. Designer modules need additional programming to load as Express drivers. But Designer is free, just like Express. Only the C compiler isn't (but the compiler IS present and highly-integrated, so someone else's code should compile, even if a third-party can't edit it.) Got mine today!....... are the chips erasable or are they one shot chips? Erasable and reprogrammable, many times. In excess of 100000 erase/write cycles....

Is there a direct link to that service pack? I cant find it...
Also, that blinky1.cmx wont load on mine...

Pile of crap express software just crashes everytime i try to build now. Errors about no build rules for LEDDECAY.O or something. Useless rubbish.

I installed the pak1, but it still seems to crash when I try to build anything. Its a very useless bit of software at the moment im afraid. A shame, I cant even turn on a single led with it. Well , I can, but that was with a wire from the switch to the led directly.
"No rule to make target `obj/cmx_decayled.o'. Stop."
It worked untill I tried to use a led with PWM decay in it, after that I get this error everytime, even without that led in the design.

Don't what to tell ya, except maybe uninstall everything and start over . It does need Win2000 or XP w/SP1 (windows service pack) to run at all. But I doubt it would install correct otherwise, so you're probably covered in that regard.... Express itself seems to be a Java app--if an older or conflicting Java API is installed, problems ( ?)

Silly question, can one of these in theory be turned into a 1541III doohicky?

Silly question, can one of these in theory be turned into a 1541III doohicky? Not much RAM on PSoC ICs for buffering, etc. In theory it's possible, but other uCs are probably better bets. For designs that need analog filtering, etc., the PSoC rocks....

A complete un-install and re-install got it working. I followed the example to get a flashing led connected to the onboard VR. Nice. I then played with the nice pwm decayled and that looks cool. Dont think ill abandon the PIC just yet, ill keep this one for specific tasks that the PIC cant do, its quite complex and looks great if you work with analogue. A Servo driver and rs232 interface would be sweet.
