Hi,
sorry, I am a week late with this question, but the recently new found apple-II podcasts make me wonder, if there are even more podcasts about our favorite hobby out there. There is retrobits and boring-beige-box, then the (somewhat related) C64-takeaway and now those two about Apple.
Does anybody know of other podcasts in this "area"?
btw: hi ;) first post, not first computer. Been a long time listener since show 16 (or so...)

I have not seen any. The only other vaguely retro hardware related podcast I have found was an 8 bit nintendo based one, but it was a bit poor. Boring beige box I had high hopes for but its quite limited in what it can be about and seems to be more about games and the sierra network than anything interesting hardware wise.

The only one I've found I like is Blibb Blobb or something like that. It's 8 bit music. The C64 takeaway is ok although I can't seem to get into the interpreted versions of old game songs. I like the originals. I did listen to a few episodes of a podcast called the GTIA podcast. I didn't really like it. One I do like but the person who runs it doesn't like the word podcast is retro gaming radio. It comes out every month or so. I would like to listen to a weekly podcast about 8 bit games. That would be great. ~telengard

C64 takeaway is cool and Blibb Blobb is good too. Other ones are 8bit mayhem which plays a mixture of 8 bit machine music and the One Man and his mic podcast is an hour long monthly podcast that covers a particular machine or composer each time.
Retro Gaming Radio is a bit of a anomaly as they only do it in German IIRC, they dont care that doing it in english will make it accesible to pretty much the rest of the world other than germany and austria. The creator and person in charge has been causing a lot of grief and upset in the c64 remix scene recently, slagging people off, spreading rumours etc and offending all the main people who produce these tunes.

Hi Earl and everyone, I have been a dedicated Retrobits podcast listener for a few weeks now and I enjoy the show very much. I have almost listened to them all now. My name is David Greelish and I started a computer history and collecting organization back in 1993 called the Historical Computer Society. I published a newsletter called "Historically Brewed." My life became more complicated (kids, etc.!) so by 1997 I didn't publish any more and have mostly been on the sidelines of the hobby. Anyway, I am starting my own podcast called the Classic Computing Podcast and I intend to style it in the vein of my newsletter which was to be called Classic Computing later on. I hope to do my first show this week.
I also intend to finally put the entire newsletter run (nine issues) up on the web in pdf, along with news articles about the group at the time, etc. I am currently trying to scan covers of all of my books too.
Like Matt from Boring Beige Box, I have been inspired by Earl. I don't want to take anything away from him or Matt, etc., but to add to the community. I guess the focus of my podcast, to over-simplify, is that it will be more hobby-centric and not hardware-centric. I won't have a one topic theme each time, but more of a "magazine" each time. I plan to have a bi-weekly schedule.
I also listen to Boring Beige Box, This Day in Apple History, NerdTV and Macintosh Folklore Radio.
Looking forward to participating more here too everyone.
Best, David Greelish classiccomputing.com

Hi David! We have a mutual friend in "Walter Peterson" in the Fort Myers area! He's shared some of the materials you used to publish with me. Any chance that the "HCS" webpage will be updated any time soon? (Back to work... ) Jeff

Hi there David!
It is super exciting to hear about the upcoming Classic Computing podcast! The retrocomputing world just gets more fun every day. I'm also looking forward to reading the newsletters once you have the PDFs up on the site.
When you get your first episode on the air, give me a holler so I can give a "shout out" on Retrobits and let people know!
Best of wishes for your debut!!!!!

If you like Scenemusic (music made with old computers), I have 2 links. hardread.intro.hu/podcast/ <-- This is an great Hungarian demogroup who plays music for you, covers c64, amiga and other types of computers (english with an Hungarian axent) www.last.fm/music/Rayn <-- this is maybe not the original page, didn't get into the site. But has tunes from, c64 amiga atari st and many others, The Host site werefrom the music is from is www.scenemusic.org, they have an real time demoscene radio, nectarine, and you can if you register request songs (30 minutes per day) (scenemusic.org has often problems with their website, serverjam?)worth a look.

Hi everyone, I am very happy and excited to report that I'm about to begin another new podcast about computer history. Though the material is copyrighted, I have acquired permission from the author and publisher - it's a book. So, I will be reading it by chapter and creating a free audio book version. The book is:
Stan Veit's History of the Personal Computer From Altair to IBM, a history of the PC revolution by Stan Veit, Editor-in-Chief Emeritus, "Computer Shopper" magazine
This is an excellent book and I have been privileged to have met and spoken with Stan on a number of occasions. I hope everyone will give it a listen. The publisher is working on a new edition. The book came out in 1993.
The book can still be purchased on amazon.com - search for Stan Veit.
Best, David Greelish
