You can count on me to stay up for the Late Late show, best monologue on T.V. in a while IMHO. Now here is a picture to show the crystal on the DTV2 board. You an see the 32.7272 as well as the AT47BV161T. I also put the swap crystal into my hummer and it is fine, just in PAL. Anyone want a Hummer in PAL Pre-modified for IEC and PS2 (sorry no color fix)? The procedure was strait forward: Use TLR's Flash9a tool to flash the hummer kerrnal to DTV Remove PAL crystal and replace with Hummer crystal Reassemble and enjoy color and all ports on previouslly PAL unit Full detail walk through to follow. Looking forward to contributing to the DTV game conversion effort now as well as the Hummer conversion.

Excellent job. This is final proof that it is indeed possible to convert the PAL unit to NTSC. I wonder if it would be easier to change the resistors before the kernel upgrade. Wouldn't the original kernel switch to NTSC timing if the resistors and xtal were replaced? And TLRs kernel patcher would read the video timings off of the user port and hard code this, right? Also, I assume your converted unit now emulates the 6510 at 1.02MHz instead of 0.98, just as it is on regular NTSC and PAL C64s. I'm wondering if this creates any problems timing-wise. In particular I was wondering about the flash utility, but you seem to have tested this. The only regrettable thing is that it is so difficult to get the right crystal. What a shame. Would you consider putting the walk-through on the DTV wiki? Looking forward to contributing to the DTV game conversion effort now as well as the Hummer conversion. Cool. I'll be looking forward to this as well. Of course this puts even more pressure on me to get that web-interface for the repository up and running, but I really want to get this done soon (so I don't have to be the only one to maintain it). ;D

What does DTV detect say about that unit?

Sure, I am recommitting to the DTV Wiki project and hope to update the Hummer site soon. As long as I get used to chipping away at it I think I will start to gain momentum.
The timing as far as I can tell from my ear (reasonable pitch recognition) I can say that commando sounds just like it did as a kid, hyper beyond reason. No wounder I turned out so high strung, my tempos were all ratcheted up, hehehe.
What would I look for in the saved file to identify the bug? I can give it a shot.

I'm with you. all those years I listened to those songs on my C64 and the first time I heard them in PAL I thought.. "Wait.. why are they so slow?"
But then I also had to wonder.. Were all those famous composers (like Rob Hubbard) working in the USA or the UK? Who is to say which version was the "right" one?

Most of the famous composers, did live overseas and compose in PAL. Here is the info for those who would like to know: hafnium.prg.dtu.dk/~theis/stil/

What would I look for in the saved file to identify the bug? I can give it a shot. Progs save, but incorrectly; usually with different lengths for the same BASIC programs. Nothing saved with the bug will LOAD--well they will, but it's garbage-in.

What does DTV detect say about that unit? Great question, I will let you know! Gmoon, I will do some saves, run diff and see what I get.

If I am not mistaken this would be the first PAL -> NTSC conversion, gobuchul74 seems to have done it a while back now.

Hello!
Are there no more updates on this project? Can I use a normal Hummer kernal or is there a special tweaked NTSC kernal that I can flash to make my DTV2 have NTSC video out? And of course the other way round. Which kernal should I use to have a PAL Hummer? Hardware tweaking is only changing the crystal, right? What is better? First flashing or first swapping crystals? Thanks for your help!
Regards, Jan
PS: Anyone here who wants to trade a DTV1 (NTSC) in original box against a DTV2 (PAL) never opened. The DTV1 is missing in my collection!

And of course the other way round. I converted a PAL DTV to NTSC by swapping crystals. I flashed the PAL DTV with my Hummer kernal and it worked just fine.

hmmmm, there was lots of talk of taking a hummer crystal and putting it in a DTV2 pal board, what about the NTSC DTV1 crystal, ( there are two on it, but I would be refering to the 32.7272 crystal and putting that into my PAL DTV2 that would work right?

me again, I dug my DTV V2 out of the closet, and I think I would like to mod it... I still have my hummer working fine, and I have an original DTV v1 board, and one still untouched... I want to put the crystal in the DTV2 from the DTV1 board I have hanging around... ( 32.7270 it's marked ... )

Good to see that you are still active in things... 1. I would be interested on the outcome as I have also both units. I received the DTV2 from a member in England. I have modded it but have not changed the kernal yet. As is, it is running PAL which the built in monitor can handle (look at my mod using an old Daytek portable dvd player).
P.S. On another topic, i have seen your Cosmac 2000 (1802) ELF project. I looks great. I am still trying to finish my Original Quest Elf.
