Dear all, I'm going to draw to a close the service where i send these C64 DTV's to the US/Canada. Simply, I have sold out of the company (Toy:Lobster) that made the sticks. Due to the human greed, almost all the parties that made the stick are either not speaking, or speaking through lawyers. There is still lots of NTSC stock in the market, but only now around 700 pcs of the PAL version. There will not be any more made and there will not be any future version, not for a long time if ever. I've enjoyed dealing with your community, other than one disgruntled owner who took-up a battle with me (no ill feelings, Slarti) I have had nothing but enjoyable communications. I will keep the service open until I run out of stock, which will be in the new month or two. If you want anymore, I'd suggest that you get the orders in soon. Givent he limited stock, I'll certainly be putting a case in my garage for nostalgia/profit! ;-) Jeff - I'd appreicate you adding this to the other sticky at the top! I NOTICE THAT JEFF HAS REMOVED THE ORIGINAL POST SO THE URL IS MISSING... www.petscii.c64dtv.co.uk/

This is sad news, indeed. I can't say that any of us are surprised. But it sure is a shame. However, when considered on a larger scale, probably only a few hundred, maybe thousand people really care. To the rest of the world it was just a toy and one to play for a few minutes and stick in a closet. For the people making the thing, it was just another money making opportunity. I suspect those of us who actually have a bond with the technology and its history are in the extreeme minority. Still, I believe I have enough hummer units to finish my long-term project. I will also be on the lookout for good deals on them in the future, such as outlet stores or whever the remaining stock ended up.

Looking at what happened to some of the Atari stickgames, I've been wondering for quite some time if this isn't just a delaying tactic by the OEM manufacturer (not necessarily the distributors.)
Purpose: to develop a cheaper (probably less capable) version in-house. In essence, stealing as much as they could and doing an end-run around the developers.
PURE speculation, of course.

Actually, a lot of people care. I know several people who wanted a DTV, and would have bought one if they were available in stores. Whoever was responsible for bringing the DTV to Europe missed out on a LOT of sales.

To answer Golan's post - I have the last revision, PAL2 which I think you refered to as V3. I have some EURO and some Ilatian packaging - both are the same content.
With regards to the other comments, there was always a lot of misunderstanding about how this project came to begin and who made them. If anyone is interested, I may write the history of the C64 DTV from the beginning to end.

If anyone is interested, I may write the history of the C64 DTV from the beginning to end. Oh.. I'm sure there are plenty of interested people. THe only question will be, will others disagree with it? In other words will a different party come on here and start bickering with a different side to it? If it were a somewhat neutral topic piece of information, It'd be great and I could stick it on my DTV website for all to read (as well as this new DTV wiki)

It's what we do , especially in the absence of real information. And with the lawyers involved, no one wants to say much. So, yes--we'd love to hear anything from someone close to the project.

I really think the loss of the DTV is sad, in particular for the modding community. I, for one, have some friends that I might have talked into modding DTVs and patching games, but with the thing becoming difficult to acquire, it is probably not something that people want to get into at this point. Personally I still have 4 units that I haven't modded yet, apart from my main unit. I might get a few more while stock lasts. Concerning the full story about the DTV, I'd love to hear it, no matter if it is fact or fiction, or from whose point of view. At this point it is difficult to know which pieces of "information" is actually from some reasonably accurate source, and which are made up by anonymous people trying to guess what happened.

Simon: Thanks for the clarification about the types of DTVs you've got left. As for your pending history of the DTV, I wait with bated breath...
