I've been pondering other methods of getting output from the DTV, and I recalled part of an article I saw years ago that used the joystick ports for data output, instead of input. Jim Brain provided a little more insight to this in c.s.c, in that the CIA chip of the 64 could be used for 5-bit output. I did a google search using that, and turned up this. www.esglabs.com/personal/parody/commies/joyport.htmlWhoever can grab a couple LED's and a 9pin connector first should be able to provide an answer to if the DTV will support this. This could provide us a way to TX/RS data from the unit, (slowly) for basic interface controls or otherwise. Jeff

I know this has been addressed in this group before.. but I just searched the whole thing and couldn't find it. But somebody had tried hooking a voltmeter to the joy port wires and trying to send output and got nothing. So I think it was determined that they can't output. Which is too bad, otherwise you could actually use both ports to establish an 8-bit I/O (well technically 9, but one would be a clock) port to communicate with another system.
