Hi everybody, Having my NTSC DTV in the Netherlands gave me a few problems with games. Most games use the other joystick (PAL C64's). So after the keyboard and IEC hack I went looking for the other joy port. I found that the second joystick was mapped to the keyboard: Up = "1" Right = "2" Down = "`" Left = "TAB" Fire = "SPACE" I hacked a joystck (SUZO Arcade) crossed out the common connection of the micro switches and attached a 10 wire flatcable to the micro switches. Opened up an AT-Keyboard, traced the lines of the keys to the PCB board. Attached the flatcable to the PCB and it works great. Greetings Richard www.commodore.nl.tt

On an ordinary C64 when you wiggle the joysticks it writes on the screen. Never thought of it as just being mapped on the keyboard. Instead of modifying an old (and valueable!) joystick I'll either buy the "Competition Pro USB" and modding that or making a simple interface between the keyboard and joystick. It can be made relatively simple with 5 small (and speedy) reed relays to activate keys, 5 transistors and 5 diodes to short the reverse current from the relays. The transistors are to minimize the current going though the joystick. Doesn't matter if the joystick uses microswitches (but don't forget the diode! Else life of switches will shorten due to the switch-off-induktion in the reed relays coil!). However if you have a joystick with rubber contacts (as in the DTV itself) chances are that the rubber can't conduct enough current without a simple transistor to boost. Please, however use care if your joystick have autofire so you don't fry the autofire cirquit! Can't wait for the PAL version. I'll have to buy two. One to mod (if it can be modded as the NTSC version else I'll have to get two NTSC) and then one to keep Havn't modded my NTSC version yet. Perhaps I'll buy some of the Competition Pro USB and mod them to ordinary C64 joysticks for my real C64 (just bought one and I only have one worn quickshot joystik to play with). Hope I can find a small diagram to implement autofire in them as well -Tilt
