I got this crazy idea today. I have a dead 64c up in the attic. I've always meant to try to figure out what is wrong with it. But today I was thinking of removing the 64c motherboard and putting a DTV board in there instead. In fact, there are several advantages to this. For one, I wouldn't need a huge power brick for it. I could even put the power supply internal.
The main issue I've been thinking of is attaching the keyboard. Since the DTV seems designed for a PS/2 and the commodore keyboard interfaced to a custom CIA.. how might I go about doing this? So far the only thing I've thought of is desoldering one of the CIAs from the dead 64c and griding down the epoxy blob on the DTV to attach the CIA to the databus.. however, I do not know if the kernel on the DTV is designed to use keyboard input in this manner.. amongst other things.
Does anybody have any suggestions on any of these issues? --DavidM

Actually, I think this was one of the first things Jim Brain did with the DTV: www.jbrain.com/vicug/gallery/c64dtv/IMG_1143I seem to remember there being a page with further info on the process involved in this hack, but I could be wrong. So, you could link it up to the c64 keyboard, I'm not sure if it would be entirely useful as a replacement without being able to add a cartridge port etc. Still, it would be a good home for a DTV, good luck Cheers, Damian
