Greetings,
I just received my DTVs this weekend, and am about to begin adding the keyboard and disk drive connections. I am thinking about trying to place the DTV into a smallish project box and adding the proper panel-mount jacks to the box for everything. But, I would need to add a connector for a joystick (or two, if the "other" buttons are actually the other joystick, as I *THINK* I've read.)
Anyway, I have no idea what that type of connector is called... I can search at Digikey and find plenty of 6 pin DIN and 6 pin mini-DIN connectors, but I have no idea where to look for joystick connectors. Are they still made? Does anybody have a link to somewhere I could buy one? Or am I going to have to find myself a "for parts" Commodore on e-bay?
Thanks, -Kevin

The joystick port on the Commodore 64 is just a simple DB9 male connector. You can get them at any good electronics store, and even at bad electronics stores such as Radio Shack. Yes, they do still have a couple of useful things, and they do still carry DB9 connectors. The connector at the console is male, and the connector on the end of the joystick cable is female.
Beware that the connector on the end of the Atari joystick, while a standard female DB9, does not have the same type of shrouding and hood that a normal DB9 will have, so if you use a standard plug and connector hood on the joystick itself, it won't quite fit into the Atari console (and, depending on the connector, the Commodore 64 as well), due to the way the socket is recessed. But, if you're putting a normal male socket on a box or something else, it doesn't matter. It's a normal connector, both types (Atari and normal DB9's) will fit fine.
The 6 pin DIN's are actually the hard ones to find. Rat Shack used to carry the plugs until a few years ago, but I never have seen the jacks at Radio Shack. The DIN connectors and plugs you'll have to order.
And, just in case you're wondering, here is the pinout of the Atari/Commodore joystick:
Pin 1: Up Pin 2: Down Pin 3: Left Pin 4: Right Pin 5: N/C on Atari, Mouse Y on C64 Pin 6: Button Pin 7: N/C on Atari. +5v on C64 Pin 8: Ground Pin 9: N/C on Atari, Mouse X on C64

Thanks for the replies!
I guess I never noticed that the Commodore joysticks were DB9s, they just look different... But now that you say it, it seems obvious, and I can't believe I never noticed.
I usually order my parts from Digikey, so I'll track down some DB9s there (they also carry the 6 pin DIN connectors in about every possible mounting-style.)
Now, I just have to wait for the stuff to get here.
