I got mine today. I solder a 6-pin female mini-DIN plug to it. I know I have the wiring right. I tryed two keyboards but they do nothing. It's like they are not even hooked up.
How does the keyboard work when it's on this? Do you have to hold a key on the keyboard when it start up or what?

Hold the K key down for a moment when you power up.
Mine does some funky KVKV stuff and then straightens out after a couple more keypresses in a second of two.

A friend of mine brought over his hacked DTV this evening and he had a 1541 and a PS/2 keyboard interfaced to it successfully. The built in filesystem is drive number 1 and can be accessed by typing LOAD "$",1 and then LIST. You can then directly load some of the EGGS and there is a new demo on there called ENTROPY as well as a game that is not listed on the menu. Very cool. It even contains a document which lists all the new registers for developing your own code.

Here is something to try without having to take apart the DTV:
Turn on the joystick and select any game from the menu. After the game loads, press and hold the R button and tap reset while still holding down the R button. Immediately start jiggling the joystick back and forth (from left to right) as FAST as you can (while still holding down the R button). I've had to hit the reset button 3 or 4 times before this would work (while jiggling the joystick and holding down R of course). Eventually, instead of typing LOAD"*",8 it will instead type LOAD"$",8 and then LIST. You will see a short directory listing 7 files. They are: BASIC PROMPT MINIMA RELOADED SPLATFORM ASTROSTORM DWCAVE CLIFF DIVING TINYRINTH You can use the mouse to scroll up to any one of these files and then press the L button to load it. If you load BASIC PROMPT, whenever you hit the L button, a keyboard appears on the TV screen and you can actually type whatever you want one painful letter at a time. I would recommend typing LOAD"$",1 and then LIST to get a full directory listing of all the files built into the ROM. Then you can load any of them you'd like. And the best part is that this trick should work with any stock DTV without even having to open it up. Hope this info helps.

While Leif and Six argue over who has dibs on the first software demo, I bring the DTV crowd the first true hardware hack. I've interfaced the True(tm) Commodore 64 keyboard to the DTV. All keys work, though a few are flaky due to the shift key issues in the DTV. I'll iron it out with delays via software, as it only affects a few keys. Obligatory pictures: www.jbrain.com/vicug/gallery/c64dtv/IMG_1142 - IMG_1145 Strangely it is easier to type on the DTV with a real 64 keyboard, go figure. As well, it also has the side benefit that a lot of shifted keys I was having trouble with on the PC keyboard are rock solid on the interface. The only ones that give trouble are keys like "'", where you've pressed shift on the 64 keyboard in preparation to type 7, but when you do type 7, the interface (which has already sent the shift key scan code to the DTV), has to send a unshift key, type the PC "'" key, which is not shifted, and then return the shift key to the previous down state (because the next key might be shift 'A', for example. All that shifting and unshifting makes those keys erratic... I'll chat with Jeri, but there should be a solution at hand. Hold the K key down for a moment when you power up. Mine does some funky KVKV stuff and then straightens out after a couple more keypresses in a second of two. Jeff Thank you Jeff. When I seen this I hooked up my DTV and plug in the keyboard in the wire hanging out were the Power and LED are I have that like plate hanging out so I can have a hole for the wire to come out. I did not want to mount this till I know it works. Any way on truning on the power wile holding down the "K" on the Keyboard it comes up just like a commodore 64. It did put a V after every thing I typed but then I just have to give it a sec. and it's ok. I typed: LOAD"$",1 LIST Wow a long list of programs. The 1st one I loaded was: LOAD"DOCVIEWER",1,1 Docviewer shows all the info. like on jims page www.jbrain.com/vicug/gallery/c64dtv/docviewer01?full=0Thanks Jim for the holding the K for Keyboard. Wow I should of known that the K was for Keyboard -Raymond Day

Hi There, Just was wondering, how did you load the ENTROPY Demo? When I try to load the file, it just hangs. Same goes for, PIPE and FOOTBAG... Thanks, Mike
